A smartphone like the Samsung Galaxy A20 should be able to do it without much of a problem, however, some owners have reported that they can’t make or receive phone calls after they updated their devices to the latest version.
In this post, I will walk you through in troubleshooting your Galaxy A20 that can’t make and receive calls. We will look into all possibilities and rule them out one by one. This will help us determine what the problem really is and hopefully be able to fix it. Galaxy A20 can’t make or receive phone calls
To be able to make and receive calls is one of the most basic functions of a phone. Needless to say, any mobile phone should be able to do this out of the box as long as the prerequisites are met like there should be a valid SIM card mounted and that the phone is within the coverage area. But since this problem happened to your new device, here are the things you need to do to fix it…
First solution: Force restart your device first to fix can’t make or receive phone calls problem
If your phone has been able to make or receive phone calls in the past prior to this issue, then it could be just a minor problem with the firmware or even a result of a glitch. That said, the first thing you should do is the forced reboot which will refresh your phone’s memory as well as reload all its apps and services. This often fixes minor firmware issues that cause various problems. Here’s how it’s done:
- Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
- While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
- Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A10 logo shows on the screen.
After this, try calling any phone number or call your own number to see if your phone still can’t make or receive phone calls. If the problem persists, move on to the next solution.
Second solution: Make sure that your phone can send text messages
If this problem is due to network or account issues, then your device should also not be able to send or receive text messages. Therefore, the next thing you have to do is send a text message to your own number to see if the message goes through and if your phone can receive it. If the message is not sent, then the issue could really be with the network or your account. However, if the message is transmitted successfully, the issue could be account-related. Move on to the next solution.

Third solution: Call your service provider
When it comes to issues with the network or your account, your service provider is the best party to call as they have all access to their network services and your account. If it’s a network problem, at least, you will be advised how long you should wait before you can regain your service and if it’s an issue with your account, then you’d know what to do to make your phone work perfectly again.

Fourth solution: Master reset your phone
If calling your service provider didn’t help fix the problem, then a master reset may be able to help you. It will bring the device back to its default settings or configuration. If it’s just an issue with the firmware and not the hardware, a reset may fix it. However, make sure to create a copy of your important files and data as they will all be deleted. After that, remove your Google and Samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out. Once everything is in order, follow these steps to reset your phone:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
- When the Galaxy A20 logo shows, release all three keys.
- Your Galaxy A20 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
