“Ok Google” Voice Command Not Working on Moto E

There have been reports about the “OK Google” voice command not working on Moto E smartphones. It either does nothing or makes a sound, but doesn’t open Google Now. If you’re one of those experiencing the same issue on your Moto E device, read this post and find out how to fix it.

Voice command feature allows you to ask your phone to perform certain tasks without the need to press the screen display. Though commands are limited, it provides efficiency and convenience at the same time.

As long as there is a good internet connection on your phone, you should be able to use the voice command feature without an issue. But this is not the case for some Moto E users. They have reported that they can’t use the OK Google voice command on their device, even with good internet connection.

Read and follow the recommendations below to possibly fix the “Ok Google” voice command not working on Moto E.

Workaround:

If you’re having problems with the voice command on your Moto E, try to set up the command feature on your device first. Here’s how to setup Ok Google voice command on your Moto E 1st gen or Moto E 2nd gen:

  • Open your “Google” app and tap on the three bars on the top left.
  • Select Settings >Voice > “Ok Google” Detection.
  • Make sure “From Google Search app” and “From any screen” are both toggled ON.
  • Go back <- into Voice and make sure Language is set to English (US).

If it did not fix the problem, try performing a reset network settings procedure. This will help in eliminating network glitches caused by invalid network settings on your device.

To reset network settings on Moto E, access the apps screen and go to Settings > System. Select Advanced > Reset Options. Touch Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth. Select Reset Settings. Enter the PIN, password or pattern if asked. Touch Reset Settings again to confirm.

Your last resort if all else fails is a factory reset. For a complete guide on how to backup and restore a Moto E smartphone, read this post.
