Fixing a Galaxy A50 that can’t make phone calls

Most of the time this kind of problem can be fixed by doing some troubleshooting procedures and depending on how it started, you may be able to sort it out by a couple of methods. With that said, here are the things you have to do to try and fix this problem…

First solution: Force reboot your phone first

When it comes to problems that occur without apparent reason, it’s best to begin your troubleshooting with a forced reboot because there’s always a possibility that the cause of the problem is just a minor issue in the system or even just a glitch. These things can easily be rectified by the forced restart. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it.
  2. While holding the volume button down, press and hold the power key as well.
  3. Now, keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A50 logo shows up.

Once your phone has successfully rebooted, try to see if it still can’t make phone calls by dialing a number that’s active. If the call doesn’t go through, then move on to the next procedure.

Second solution: Make sure it’s not about the signal

Just by looking at the signal indicator at the status bar would tell you if this is a signal-related problem. If you’re getting below 3 bars, then you’ll probably encounter this issue intermittently. Which means some calls may go through and others may not. Try to see if this is the case with your phone. Also, make sure that the Airplane mode isn’t enabled. When it is enabled, you could no longer see the status bar, instead, you’d be seeing an airplane icon. You can disable it by pulling the notification panel down and tapping the Airplane mode icon.

Third solution: Call tech support to inquire about your account and the network

When it comes to problems like this, your service provider is the one that could help you properly. Why? Because they have all the information about your account and your status including your system and whether or not your account is barred from using certain services. If it’s not about the status of your account, then they also have all the necessary tools that could fix the problem if the issue is in the service level. Moreover, if it’s a network issue, you will be advised as to when the problem will be resolved. Unless it’s a serious network problem, outages may only last about an hour or two and if it’s the case, there’s nothing you can do but wait.

Fourth solution: Backup your file and reset your phone

After calling your service provider and your Galaxy A50 still can’t make phone calls and you’re advised to bring the phone back to the store so that a technician can check it for you, then it’s best to reset it to protect your personal information.

Take time backing up all your important files and data including your contacts, text messages, pictures, videos, music tracks, etc. and then remove your Google and Samsung accounts from your device so that you won’t be locked out. After which, follow these steps to perform the Master Reset:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  7. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  8. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

After the reset, you can now bring your phone to the store. I hope that we’ve been able to help you fix your Samsung Galaxy A50 that can’t make phone calls or receive one.
