Can’t Send or Receive Picture Messages on Moto X

If you can’t send or receive picture messages on your Moto X, ensure that your cellular data is enabled. If the MMS feature is still not working while mobile data is on, troubleshoot your phone using the guide below.

Fix Moto X that Can’t Send or Receive Picture Messages

When your phone can’t sent or receive picture messages even if you are connected to the internet, it is possible that your phone has been inflicted with minor software glitches. Misconfigured APN settings can also be to blame.

To address this internet issue on your Moto X, Moto X 1st gen, Moto X 2nd gen, Moto X 3rd gen, and Moto X Play, follow the guide we have mapped out below.

Here are a couple things you can try:

    • Power off your device completely, then power it back on.
    • Make sure you have a network connection (if you have No Service click here).
    • Go to Settings > Data Usage and make sure cellular data is on and there is no data limit blocking you.

    • Note: You NEED a data connection on your Motorola smartphone to be able to send or receive picture messages (MMS). If you have a data block with your provider, make sure to contact them to remove it.
  • Go to Settings > More… > Cellular networks > Access point names and make sure you have your Carrier selected. If your APN list is empty or is missing your Carrier, then you will need to configure your carrier’s APN settings (For all APN settings and how to configure click here).
  • Turn your WiFi OFF and try sending or downloading the picture message.

If none of these solutions worked, you may contact your carrier network provider to check if there’s an ongoing outage affecting the MMS service. If there’s none, their help support should also be able to provide you further assistance and recommendations.
