First solution: Restart your router/modem

Though the intermittent internet connection started after installing iOS 13 on your iPhone XR, it is still possible that the underlying cause is the router/modem itself. Firmware crashes on modem can be rectified by simply refreshing the device. Here is how it’s done:

  1. On your router/modem, locate the Power button then push or flip it to turn the device off.
  2. Then unplug the AC adapter from the power outlet for at least 2 minutes.
  3. After the said time, plug the AC adapter back to the power outlet then push the Power button on the router/modem to turn the device back on.
  4. Wait for the signal indicators to become stable particularly for the Wi-Fi signal indicator.

All devices that are set to automatically connect to the Wi-Fi network should re-establish internet connection once the Wi-Fi signal on your router/modem has been resumed. Wait until your iPhone XR show stable internet signal, then check any online apps and services to see if the internet is no longer slow.

Second solution: Reboot (soft reset) your iPhone XR

Browser app’s normal functions can be affected by random software glitches and therefore triggers the internet connection to become very slow. To rule this out, give your phone a quick restart. Doing so will clear out minor glitches affecting your phone’s operating system and refreshes its memory. Follow these steps to soft reset your iPhone XR:

  1. Press and hold the Side/Power button and either Volume Up or Down buttons simultaneously for a few seconds.
  2. Release both buttons when the Slide to Power Off command appears.
  3. Drag the power off slider to the right to shut down your iPhone XR.
  4. After 30 seconds, press and hold the Side/Power button again until the Apple logo appears.

To ensure that all your browser apps’ cache files and data will be deleted, it is also recommended to clear cache and browsing data. For third-party browsers, this can be done by completely deleting the app from your phone’s memory then reinstall. But if you are using Apple’s Safari browser app, simply head to the app settings menu to clear cache and cookies and browsing history. Here is how:

  1. From Home, go to Settings.
  2. Scroll down to and tap on Safari.
  3. Scroll to and tap Advanced.
  4. Then select Website Data option.
  5. Check the accumulated storage space for the website data and select Remove All Website Data option.

Once done, all cache files and temporary data from your Safari app should be cleared out, refreshing your browser’s system. Afterwards, restart (soft reset) your iPhone XR then try to browse various websites and see if the internet connection is now stable.

Third solution: Toggle Wi-Fi off and on again

  1. From Home, go to Settings.
  2. Select Wi-Fi menu.
  3. Tap the Wi-Fi switch to disable the feature.
  4. Reboot your iPhone XR while Wi-Fi is turned off.
  5. Then head back to Settings->Wi-Fi menu and toggle the switch again to turn the feature back on.

Alternatively, you can also refresh your internet connection by turning the Airplane Mode on and off again and toggling the Wi-Fi icon off and on from the Control Center. Whichever option you may choose, they all provide the same output.

Then launch any online apps or browser and use them as you normally do. If the internet is still very slow, try the next option.

Fourth solution: Delete/forget Wi-Fi network then rejoin

Corrupted Wi-Fi network can also be the underlying cause and can’t be mended by the simple workarounds provided above. In this case, you need to remove the network from your phone’s system, then reconnect. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. From Home, go to Settings.
  2. Select Wi-Fi menu.
  3. Tap the information (i) icon next to your Wi-Fi network.
  4. Then tap Forget This Network option.
  5. When prompted, tap Forget to confirm the deletion of your Wi-Fi network.
  6. If there are multiple saved networks, it is also recommended to delete them all to avoid any of them from causing conflict with your Wi-Fi network that you are currently using.

Reboot your iPhone XR after you have successfully deleted all the wireless networks. Then head back to Settings->Wi-Fi menu. Tap the switch to enable the feature and wait until it recognizes the available networks within range. Select your Wi-Fi network and then enter your Wi-Fi password to rejoin or re-connect.

Fifth solution: Reset network settings on your iPhone XR

Major updates like iOS update can easily alter your phone’s settings especially if it has been reconfigured prior to installing the latest iOS version. To deal with network-related issues, delete your phone’s current network settings and then restore the default values and options. Here’s how you do it:

  1. From Home, go to Settings.
  2. Select General.
  3. Scroll down to and tap on Reset.
  4. Then select Reset network settings option.
  5. Enter your device passcode when prompted to continue.
  6. Then select Reset network settings again to confirm the reset.

Your phone will automatically reboot after the reset and then loads the original values and options. Being said, it is necessary for you to re-enter your Wi-Fi credentials like password to reconnect. Once you are already connected to your wireless network, browse any websites. If the internet service is still very slow, you may consider restoring your iPhone XR to factory default settings using the next method.

Sixth solution: Master reset your iPhone XR

If the internet issue still persists, restore your phone to its factory default settings as you might be dealing with major data corruption. Note that this method will wipe everything that is saved on your phone’s memory so better create a back-up for these critical files beforehand. But nonetheless, this method will address major system issues and give your phone a fresh clean restart. The master/factory reset can be carried out through your phone’s settings menu  and via iTunes. In this procedure, we will be guiding you on how to perform the master reset through your phone’s settings menu. Follow these steps:

  1. From Home, go to Settings.
  2. Select General.
  3. Scroll down to and tap on Reset.
  4. Then select Erase all content and settings option.
  5. Enter your device passcode when asked to continue.
  6. Then select the option to confirm the factory reset.

After the full system reset, follow the onscreen instructions to set your iPhone XR as new again. Then enable your Wi-Fi, set-up your wireless network, then reconnect.
