Troubleshooting Galaxy A50 that freezes and shuts down by itself

When troubleshooting a smartphone that freezes and shuts down, you have to be thorough enough to accurately diagnose the problem and fix it. In this guide, we’ll take this problem one solution at a time. Here’s what you need to do:

First solution: Try connecting your phone to its charger and observe

The purpose of this procedure is to find out if the battery is failing when it shuts down. If there’s an issue with the battery and that’s what causes the random shutdowns, then connecting the phone to the charger will temporarily fix it since your device would have a stable power source. We’re still in the initial probing process and this is very important, that’s why you cannot just overlook this method.

If your phone still shuts down by itself even if it’s connected to the charger, then there’s no issue with the battery and this could all be all firmware-related. On the other hand, if the problem does not shut down by itself anymore when connected to the charger, then it means that there’s a hardware-related issue and the freezes might be just a result of a phone suddenly losing power while the capacitors still has little charges. That’s the reason why the display may still seem powered on but the device is no longer responding. If this is the case, you have to bring the phone to the tech.

But assuming that it’s not a hardware issue and your phone still freezes and shuts down by itself even if it’s connected to the charger, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Run your phone in safe mode

Doing this will temporarily disable all third-party applications. It is important that you do this because one or some of the apps you downloaded and installed might be causing the problem. This is how it’s done on your device:

  1. Press and hold the Power key until options show.
  2. Tap and hold the Power off option until it changes into Safe Mode.
  3. Tap the Safe mode icon to restart your device.
  4. Once the reboot is successful, you should see ‘Safe mode’ at the lower-left corner of the screen.

If the freezes and shutdowns don’t occur while the phone is in safe mode, then our suspicion that the problem is caused by a third-party is confirmed. Here’s what you need to do next:

  1. Restart your phone normal to boot into standard mode.
  2. Remember the apps you installed about the time when the phone started to freeze and shut down by itself.
  3. Once you already have an app in mind, swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  4. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  5. Scroll to and then tap Apps.
  6. Find and tap suspected app.
  7. Tap Storage.
  8. Touch Clear data and tap OK to confirm.
  9. Tap the back key once and then touch Uninstall.
  10. Confirm that you want to remove the app from your phone.

However, if the freezes still occur even if your phone is in safe mode, then try the next solution.

Third solution: Reset all settings

There are times when some settings of your phone are messed up and would result in a problem like this. While we don’t know if that’s really the case here, it’s still best to rule it out by resetting all settings on your Galaxy A50. Here’s how:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll to and tap General management.
  4. Touch Reset.
  5. Tap Reset settings.
  6. Tap the Reset settings button.
  7. If prompted, enter your PIN, Password or Pattern.
  8. Finally, tap Reset.

When the settings reset is done and your phone still freezes and shuts down by itself, then move on to the next procedure.

Fourth solution: Delete the system cache of your phone

Performance issues may also occur if the system cache is corrupt. The system cache is a collection of hundreds of small files created by the system to make your overall experience satisfactory. When these files get corrupted, issues like this may occur. So, to address this possibility, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
  3. When the Galaxy A50 logo shows, release all three keys.
  4. Your Galaxy A50 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  6. Press Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Once your phone has successfully rebooted, try to see if the freezes and shutdowns still occur. If they still do, then you have no other choice but to do the next solution.

Fifth solution: Master reset your phone

A reset will fix any performance-related problems including this. However, make sure to create a copy of your important files and data as they will be deleted during the process. After the backup, remove your google account from your device so that you won’t be locked out. When everything is ready, follow these steps to reset your phone:

  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

After the reset, set up your phone as a new device. I hope that we’ve been able to help you fix your Samsung Galaxy A50 that freezes and shuts down by itself. We would appreciate it if you helped us spread the word so please share this post if you found it helpful. Thank you so much for reading!
