Like many Android phones, Google Pixel phones also support the use of different gestures to carry out specific functions and interact with the phone’s operating system. One of these gestures is called Tap to Check Phone. As the name suggests, this feature works by letting you check notifications when your phone is locked by simply tapping the screen.
If you’re new to Google Pixel phones and need some input on how to access and activate this feature on your recently acquired Pixel 7, then you may go ahead and follow these steps.
- To get started, launch the Settings app menu by tapping on the gear icon from the Apps tray of your phone.
Simply swipe your finger up from the bottom of the Home screen to launch the Apps tray and view all apps shortcuts including Settings.
- In the Settings menu, find then tap Display.
Another screen will launch, highlighting all display-related features and options you can use and manage.
- Navigate to the Lock display section then tap Lock screen.
A list of all lock screen features will load up on the Lock screen menu.
- Scroll down to the bottom section of the Lock screen menu then find Tap to Check Phone from the given options.
Once found, tap on it to proceed.
- On the following screen, you will see the main toggle to turn the feature on or off.
Simply tap on the Tap to Check Phone switch to enable it.

When the switch becomes highlighted, it indicates that the feature is activated. By then you can tap on the lock screen whenever you’d like to check time, notifications, and other information without having to press on the side key or unlock your device.
Should you wish to stop using this feature, simply head back to the Lock screen settings menu then toggle to turn the Tap to Check Phone switch OFF again.
Other Pixel 7 Tap Gestures
Aside from Tap to Check Phone, you can also make use of other gestures to check notifications when your phone is locked. Among other options include Swipe fingerprint for notifications and the Lift to Check Phone gesture.
Certain apps and tasks on your Pixel 7 can also be launched using Quick tap. Quick tap is just another touchscreen gesture that lets you take a screenshot or play/pause media with 2 taps on the back of your phone. You can also use Quick Tap to show notifications or launch an app. It works the same as that of Apple’s Back Tap feature in later iPhones.
And that’s how to enable the Tap to Check Phone gesture on the Google Pixel 7 smartphone.
