What to do if notifications are not working on Apple iPhone 11

Some owners of the Apple iPhone 11 have been complaining about audio-related issues that seem to have occurred shortly after the iOS 13.2 update. Some users reported that the notifications are not working on their devices anymore, or their iPhones would no longer alert them if new notifications come in. This issue is annoying because you may not be able to know immediately if text messages come in but don’t worry, it’s not that hard to fix.

If notifications are not working due to a firmware issue, then you should be able to fix it just by doing some basic troubleshooting procedures. That’s the purpose of this post, so in this troubleshooting guide, I will walk you through in troubleshooting your iPhone 11 with notification issues. We will look into all possibilities and rule them out one after another until we can determine the cause of the problem and hopefully be able to fix it. If you’re an owner of this phone and are currently being bugged by a similar problem, continue reading this post as you may find it helpful.

Troubleshooting an iPhone 11 whose notifications are not working

In troubleshooting your iPhone 11 with this kind of problem, you need to be thorough enough to accurately determine the issue and fix it properly. Aside from that, it would also prevent data loss. Here’s what you need to do:

First solution: Make sure your iPhone is not in Silent Mode

It’s always possible that your iPhone has been accidentally set in silent mode because it has a physical ringer switch. That’s why the first thing that you have to do is check if the ringer switch has been flipped.

  1. Flip the switch down or up for you to see what mode it’s in.
  2. If it enters the Silent Mode, flip the switch again.

After this, press the volume button (either of the two), to see the volume level on your iPhone. While you’re troubleshooting your device, make sure to turn the volume all the way up.

If notifications are not working still even after doing this, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Refresh your iPhone’s memory

If this problem started without apparent reason or cause, then it’s possible that it’s caused by some minor firmware glitch or system issues. Most of the time, these minor problems can be fixed by a simple reboot but I suggest you do the Forced Reboot to rule out this possibility as it’s more effective. Here’s how:

  1. Quickly press and release the Volume Up button, and then the Volume Down button.
  2. The moment you release the volume down button, press and hold the Side or Power key for 15 seconds or until the Apple logo shows on the screen.

Once your iPhone has finished rebooting, try to see if notifications are still not working because if so, then try the next solution.

Third solution: Reset all the Settings of your iPhone 11

After the first two procedures and notifications are not working still, then this must be the next thing you have to do. This already covers everything or every setting you failed to check. For instance, if you’ve used the Do Not Disturb feature before, it’s possible that it’s the reason why notifications are not working on your iPhone 11. But don’t worry, resetting all settings will bring everything back like when you first turn the device on. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Find and tap General.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and then touch Reset.
  4. Touch Reset All Settings.
  5. If prompted, enter your security lock.
  6. Tap Reset All Settings at the bottom of the screen, and then tap Reset All Settings again to confirm.

Your iPhone will reboot after this, once it has finished rebooting, try to use the phone as you normally would to see if notifications are now working properly. If it does not, then you have to do the next procedure.

Fourth solution: Factory reset your iPhone 11

If the notifications are still not working after the first three procedures, then this reset will surely fix it provided that it’s not an issue with your device’s loudspeaker. Prior to the reset, make sure to create a copy of your important files and data because they will be deleted and you may not be able to retrieve them after that. When ready, follow these steps to reset your iPhone 11 whose notifications are not working…

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Find and tap General.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and then touch Reset.
  4. Tap Erase All Contents and Settings.
  5. Tap Erase Now.
  6. If prompted, enter your security lock.
  7. Tap Erase iPhone at the bottom of the screen.
  8. Tap Erase iPhone again to proceed.
  9. Now enter your Apple ID password, and then tap Erase to proceed with the reset.
  10. Wait until your iPhone has finished the reset, and then set it up as a new device.
