Swipe up not working on Apple iPhone XS after iOS 13

The Apple iPhone XS doesn’t have a home button like its predecessors and it relies only on one gesture to go back to the home screen and that’s the swipe up. However, some owners have complained that swipe up is reportedly not working after the iOS 13 update. Of course, if the gesture has been working prior to the update, then this problem is basically just a glitch or a minor firmware issue.

Needless to say, you will be able to fix this problem just by doing a few procedures. That’s what we’re going to do here. In this post, I will walk you through in troubleshooting your iPhone XS that no longer executes the swipe up function after the iOS 13 update. If you’re one of the owners of this device and are currently dealing with a similar issue, continue reading as this article may be able to help you.

What to do if swipe up no longer works on iPhone XS after iOS 13

We have already encountered this problem and among those who experienced it are the owners of the iPhone X. Apparently, even iPhone XS, XS Max and XR can also have this problem but it’s pretty minor. Here’s what you need to do:

First solution: Force restart your iPhone

Most of those who encountered this problem reported that a forced restart will fix this problem. So this must be the first thing you have to do. After all, it’s pretty easy to do and safe for both your device and your data. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Quickly press and release the Volume Up button, and then quickly press and release the Volume Down button.
  2. The moment you release the Volume down button, press and hold the Side or Power key until the Apple logo shows on the screen.

Once the device has successfully rebooted, try to see if the swipe up function works. If it doesn’t, then try the next solution.

Second solution: Reset all the settings of your iPhone

Resetting all the settings of your iPhone will rule out the possibility that some settings on your device have been changed inadvertently. It’s important to do this because it’s pretty effective against problems that occur after an update. Here’s how you do it:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings
  2. Find and tap General
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and then touch Reset
  4. Touch Reset All Settings.
  5. If prompted, enter your security lock.
  6. Tap Reset All Settings at the bottom of the screen, and then tap Reset All Settings again to confirm.

Your iPhone will reboot after this, once it has finished rebooting, try to see if the swipe up function is now working. If still not, then move on to the final solution.

Third solution: Reset your iPhone

A reset will fix this problem for sure as it’s just a minor firmware-related problem. However, you have to backup all your files and data prior to the reset because they will be deleted. After the backup, follow these steps to reset your device:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings
  2. Find and tap General
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and then touch Reset
  4. Tap Erase All Contents and Settings.
  5. Tap Erase Now.
  6. If prompted, enter your security lock.
  7. Tap Erase iPhone at the bottom of the screen.
  8. Tap Erase iPhone again to proceed with the reset.
