Samsung Galaxy A20 started running slow. Here’s the fix.

The Samsung Galaxy A20 is an entry-level device but it must still be run smoothly when used normally. Some owners however, complained that their devices started running slow after the most recent update. Odds are that the problem is just minor as the phone still optimizes its apps and services to run smoothly on the new firmware, or some cache or data files may have been corrupted. Whatever the case may be, you should be able to fix it on your own by doing the procedures below.

We have already encountered similar issues in the past and most of the time, we were able to fix them, especially if the firmware has not been modified. Performance issues, while they’re pretty annoying, are actually pretty easy to fix. So, in this post, I will guide you in troubleshooting your Galaxy A20 that’s running slow after an update.

Troubleshooting your Galaxy A20 that’s running slow

Performance-related problems aren’t really that serious. In fact, you may be able to fix it just by doing a couple of procedures. Below are things you can do to make your phone run smoothly again…

First solution: Do the Forced restart

Most of the time, when a phone starts running slow, it’s the firmware that has some issues and they’re not necessarily serious. So, the first thing you need to do is perform the forced restart to refresh your phone’s memory as well as reload all its apps and services. If it’s just an issue with the firmware, then your phone should already be running smoothly after this. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
  2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A20 logo shows on the screen.

Once your phone has successfully restarted, try to see if it’s still running slow because if it does, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Make sure it’s not due to third-party apps

There are also apps that can make your phone perform poorly once installed. Or, if there are a bunch of heavy apps running in the background, you can always expect your phone to start running slow and sluggish. But if it’s the case, then the problem can easily be fixed. Follow these steps to run your phone in safe mode:

  1. Press and hold the Power key until options show.
  2. Tap and hold the Power off option until it changes into Safe Mode.
  3. Tap the Safe mode icon to restart your device.
  4. Once the reboot is successful, you should see ‘Safe mode’ at the lower-left corner of the screen.

Once in safe mode, try to observe your device to know if it’s still sluggish or running slow. If the problem seems fixed while in this mode, then do this to probe further:

  1. Restart your phone normal to boot into standard mode.
  2. Remember the apps you installed about the time when the phone starts to run slow.
  3. Once you already have an app in mind, swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  4. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  5. Scroll to and then tap Apps.
  6. Find and tap suspected app.
  7. Tap Storage.
  8. Touch Clear data and tap OK to confirm.
  9. Tap the back key once and then touch Uninstall.
  10. Confirm that you want to remove the app from your phone.

However, if your phone is still running slow while in safe mode, then move on to the next solution.

Third solution: Reset All Settings to fix phone that’s running slow

Sometimes, this problem can also be due to some incorrect settings in your phone. Before troubleshooting the firmware, it’s best to reset all settings in your device to see if it helps it make run smoothly. Here’s how you do that:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll to and tap General management.
  4. Touch Reset.
  5. Tap Reset settings.
  6. Tap the Reset settings button.
  7. If prompted, enter your PIN, Password or Pattern.
  8. Finally, tap Reset.

After doing this and your phone is still running slow, then move on to troubleshoot the firmware.

Fourth solution: Wipe the cache partition

It is important that the cache Android is using is not obsolete or corrupt. The system cache gets corrupted from time to time and when it happens, performance issues may occur and the most common sign is that the device will start to run slow. To rule this possibility out, you just have to wipe the cache partition to delete the cache and replace it with a new one. Here’s how you do that:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Galaxy A20 logo shows, release all three keys.
  4. Your Galaxy A20 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  6. Press Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Once your phone has finished rebooting, observe closely to know if it is still running slow because if it does, then move on to the next solution.

Fifth solution: Backup important files and reset your phone

After the first four solutions and your phone is still running slow, the next thing to do is to reset your device. A master reset will fix any firmware or software-related issues including performance problems like this. However, make sure to create a copy of your important files and data as they will be deleted during the process. After the backup, remove your google and samsung accounts from your phone so that you won’t be locked out after the reset. Once ready, follow these steps to reset your phone:

  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
