My Apple iPhone XR can’t connect to the App Store after iOS 13

Shortly after I finished updating my Apple iPhone XR to iOS 13, I launched the App Store to download some apps and I was asked to ‘Retry’ because the app can no longer connect to the server. The first thing I did was check the connection because the WiFi may have been disconnected but everything was fine, yet the App Store can’t connect to the server. Eventually, I was able to fix the problem and make everything work perfectly again.

Troubleshooting an iPhone XR that can’t connect to the App Store after iOS 13

Apparently, this problem is not really that serious but if you didn’t know what to do, you may have a hard time with it. Now, if you have a problem like this, here’s what you need to do:

First solution: Restart or Force Restart your iPhone

The first thing you have to do if your iPhone can’t connect to the App Store after an update is to restart it. A simple reboot may be able to fix the problem but if you want to do the more effective method, then perform the Forced Restart.

To restart your iPhone XR:

  1. Press one of the volume keys and the Power key at the same time, and hold them both until the power slider shows on the screen.
  2. Drag the slider to the right to turn your iPhone XR off.
  3. Wait a few seconds before pressing and holding the power key until the Apple logo shows.
  4. Now, wait for your iPhone to finish rebooting

And this is how your force restart your iPhone:

  1. Quickly press and release the Volume Up button, and then quickly press and release the Volume Down button.
  2. The moment you release the volume down button, press and hold the Side or Power key until the Apple logo shows on the screen.

Once your phone has finished rebooting, launch the App Store. It should be working properly now, but if your device still can’t connect to the App Store, then try the next solution.

Second solution: Reset all the settings of your iPhone

This is another effective solution to any minor firmware-related issues, including this one. What it does bring your iPhone’s settings back to the factory defaults without deleting your personal files and data. This is how you do it:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Find and tap General.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and then touch Reset.
  4. Touch Reset All Settings.
  5. If prompted, enter your security lock.
  6. Tap Reset All Settings at the bottom of the screen, and then tap Reset All Settings again to confirm.
  7. Your iPhone will reboot after this, once it has finished rebooting, try to use the phone as you normally would to see if it still shuts down at some point. If it does, then move on to the next solution.

Third solution: Factory Reset your iPhone

I’m confident that the first two procedures will fix your iPhone XR that can’t connect to the App Store after the iOS 13 update, but if for some reason, the problem continues to bug you after doing those methods, then a reset will be necessary. But prior to the reset, make sure to create a copy of your important files and data as they will be deleted. When ready, follow these steps to reset your iPhone:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Find and tap General.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and then touch Reset.
  4. Tap Erase All Contents and Settings.
  5. Tap Erase Now.
  6. If prompted, enter your security lock.
  7. Tap Erase iPhone at the bottom of the screen.
  8. Tap Erase iPhone again to proceed with the reset.

After the reset, set up your iPhone XR as a new device and everything should be working properly now.
