Mobile data not working on iPhone after the iOS 13.3 update

Fixing an iPhone with mobile data that’s not working

Now that I’ve enumerated the possible causes or reasons why cellular data doesn’t work on your iPhone anymore, it’s time to troubleshoot your device and rule out all those possibilities. Here are the things you need to do: 

First solution: Perform the Forced Restart

When it comes to fixing network problems that occurred without apparent reason or cause, the first thing that you have to do is the forced restart, especially if your device has been working properly prior to the occurrence of the problem. It is a simulated battery removal that will refresh your iPhone’s memory and reload its apps and services. Here’s how it’s done: 

  1. Quickly press and release the Volume Up button, and then quickly press and release the Volume Down button. 
  2. The moment you release the volume down button, press and hold the Side or Power key until the Apple logo shows on the screen. 

Your iPhone will restart after this procedure and once it has finished rebooting, try to see if you can now connect to the Internet using mobile data or can send and receive MMS by sending a picture message to your own number. If cellular data is still not working after this procedure, then move on to the next solution. 

Second solution: Reset the Network Settings on your iPhone

If there are some network services on your iPhone that stopped responding or keeps crashing, that might be the reason why cellular data is no longer working properly. So the next thing that you have to do is to reset the network settings of your iPhone and see if that fixes the problem. This procedure is very effective against a problem like this but none of your files and data will be deleted. Here’s how it’s done: 

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings. 
  2. Tap General. 
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and then touch Reset. 
  4. Touch Reset Network Settings. 
  5. If prompted, enter your security lock. 
  6. Tap Reset Network Settings at the bottom of the screen. 
  7. Your iPhone will reboot after this, once it has finished rebooting, try to see if the problem is fixed. 

Your iPhone will restart after doing this procedure and once it has finished rebooting, try to see if its cellular data is now working. 

Third solution: Factory Reset your iPhone

If the first and second solutions failed to make mobile data work again, then it’s time to reset your iPhone because it is possible that this problem is caused by a serious firmware issue. However, prior to the reset, make sure to create a copy of your important files and data because it may be very hard for you to recover them if they get deleted during the process. When ready, follow these steps to reset your iPhone: 

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings. 
  2. Find and tap General. 
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and then touch Reset. 
  4. Tap Erase All Contents and Settings. 
  5. Tap Erase Now. 
  6. If prompted, enter your security lock. 
  7. Tap Erase iPhone at the bottom of the screen.  
  8. Tap Erase iPhone again to proceed with the reset.  
  9. Now enter your Apple ID’s password and wait until the reset is complete.

If mobile data is still not working on your iPhone after the reset, then it’s time you restore it. Here’s how you DFU restore it: 

  1. Connect your iPhone to the computer then launch iTunes or Finder.
  2. While your device is connected, quickly press and release the Volume Up button.
  3. Then, quickly press and release the Volume Down button. 
  4. Finally, press and hold the Side button until your iPhone screen turns black.
  5. Keep holding the Side button when the screen turns black and then press the Volume Down button.
  6. Hold both buttons for 5 seconds.
  7. After 5 seconds, release the Power button but keep holding the Volume Down button for another 10 seconds.
  8. When your iphone has successfully entered the DFU mode, a window will pop-up giving you options to ‘Cancel,’ ‘Update’ or ‘Restore.’
  9. Click Restore and confirm your command.

Fourth solution: Call your service provider

If all else fails, the problem may not be with your iPhone but there could be an issue with your provider’s network, or it could be an issue with your account. Your service provider has all the tools to determine if it’s a network problem or an account issue. If the problem is with your account, you will be advised what to do to bring it back to its good standing. If it’s a network problem, then you will also be advised of the estimated time of resolution.
