Messenger keeps stopping on Samsung Galaxy A10. Here’s the fix.

Facebook Messenger is one of the most popular apps today and it’s being updated regularly to make sure user experience is always at its best. But just like all the others, it’s not perfect and you may encounter issues every now and then. The most common, however, is when the error ‘Messenger keeps stopping’ shows instead of the app opening up normally. The error basically means that the app has crashed or stopped working for some reason. Most of the time, it’s just an issue with the app itself, but there are also times when it’s just a result of a firmware problem.

In this troubleshooting guide, I will help you in fixing your Galaxy A10 that keeps on popping up the ‘Messenger keeps stopping’ error. We will try to see if the problem is limited to the app only or if the firmware has something to do with it. Based on experience though, this problem is not really that serious and the good thing with third party applications is that you can always uninstall them if the problem continues. If you’re one of the owners of this phone and are currently being bugged by a similar issue, continue reading as this article may be able to help you one way or another.

Troubleshooting a Galaxy A10 with ‘Messenger keeps stopping’ error

Unlike the Facebook app, Messenger does not come pre-installed on the Galaxy A10 but both apps are deeply connected with each other since the latter will be launched when you tap the messaging icon on the main app. So, the error ‘Messenger keeps stopping’ may pop up when you’re using the main Facebook app or by launching Messenger itself. Whatever the case may be, here’s what you should do about it:

First solution: Clear the cache and data of Messenger

The first thing that you have to do when troubleshooting a third-party application that keeps on crashing is to reset it. A reset for apps means to clear their cache and data. This will delete the cache and data files created by the system, and replace them with a new set. If this is just a minor app issue, then this procedure will definitely fix it. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll to and then tap Apps.
  4. Find and tap Messenger.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Touch Clear cache.
  7. Touch Clear data and then tap OK to confirm.

After doing this procedure and the ‘messenger keeps stopping’ error still pops up, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Uninstall Messenger and reinstall it

There are times when this kind of problem is due to a compatibility issue between the app and the firmware. Needless to say, an update would fix this problem. But the thing is, some users still reported dealing with the same problem after updating the app. Therefore, the next thing that you have to do if the app reset didn’t work is to uninstall Messenger to remove all its installation files and associations with other apps, services and the firmware. After which, reinstall it to make sure you’re using the latest version. This procedure has been proven effective against this problem and here’s how it’s done:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll to and then tap Apps.
  4. Find and tap Messenger.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Touch Clear data and tap OK to confirm.
  7. Tap the back key once and then touch Uninstall.
  8. Confirm that you want to remove the app from your phone.
  9. After you’ve successfully uninstalled Messenger, launch the Play Store.
  10. Search for messenger and then tap Install.
  11. Wait for the installation to finish and when it’s done, tap Open to launch it.

Most of the time, these two procedures are the only methods you have to use to get rid of the error message ‘Messenger keeps stopping’ from your Galaxy A10. However, if for some reason the error continues to show when you open the app, then you have no other choice but to do the next procedure.

Third solution: Master reset your phone

A reset will fix any app-related problems regardless if the app in question is a pre-installed or third-party. But the catch is you may lose some of your files and data during the process. Therefore, you should spend time creating a backup of your important files or data that you don’t want to lose. After the backup, remove your google account so that you won’t be locked out, and then follow these steps to reset your phone:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
  3. When the Galaxy A10 logo shows, release all three keys.
  4. Your Galaxy A10 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

When the reset is complete, set up your phone as a new device and enjoy!
