Troubleshooting Facebook app that won’t open or load on iPhone XS Max

Before troubleshooting, check your Internet connection and make sure that your iPhone has a stable Internet access. If the Internet is not stable or intermittent, then that’s most likely causing online apps like Facebook to experience loading errors. In this case, you’ll have to deal with Internet problems first for online apps and services like Facebook to work or load properly on your iPhone XS Max. If Facebook still won’t open even if the Internet is working fine, then that’s when you should rule out software-related factors that might have inflicted troubles.

First Solution: Clear Facebook app and other background apps on your iPhone XS Max.

When you open an app on your iPhone, that app stays opened and running in the background unless you end it. Keeping apps in this state is usually beneficial for multitasking purposes but can also cause trouble if any of them gets corrupted. When this happens, there is a tendency for other apps to become adversely affected and so would fail to load or work as intended. To rule this out, force close Facebook and other background apps on your iPhone XS Max through these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up and pause.
  2. Swipe left or right to find the Facebook app preview.
  3. Swipe up to close Facebook app preview.

Perform the same procedure to other apps you see running in the background to dump memory cache and to refresh the phone’s operating system. Any app glitches inflicted by suspended apps will also be eliminated.

Second solution: Reboot your iPhone XS Max.

If the first step did not resolve the issue and that the Facebook app is still not loading or opening on your iPhone, try to restart or soft reset your device next. This can help clear out minor system errors and app glitches without deleting any saved data on the internal storage. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Look for the Side/ Power button and either of the Volume Buttons then press and hold them simultaneously for a few seconds.
  2. Release them when you see the Slide to Power Off command on your screen and drag the power off slider to the right.
  3. Wait for 30 seconds then press and hold the Side/Power Button until the phone reboots.

Let your phone finish rebooting then open the Facebook app to check if it launches successfully on your iPhone XS Max.

Third solution: Download and install pending updates for Facebook app.

To get the best performance on your app, it is recommended to update them regularly. Updates provide necessary fixes for certain bugs and glitches and could therefore help in fixing the issue on your iPhone XS Max Facebook app that doesn’t load up as intended. If your phone is not set for automatic updates, then you might have missed installing the latest version of Facebook app. In that case, manually installing pending updates for Facebook is necessary. Here are the steps to check and install pending app updates on your device:

  1. From the Home screen, access the App Store icon.
  2. Select Updates to see the pending updates available for your apps.
  3. Look for Facebook then tap Update beside it to download and install the update.
  4. If you want to update all the apps, tap on Update All at the upper right corner to update the apps simultaneously.

Fifth solution: Reset network settings on your iPhone XS Max.

This reset is often used to deal with network-related issues that could not be remedied by the initial procedures. This clears out your current network configurations and then restores the original network values and options. This means the need for you to re-enable Wi-Fi, set up and reconnect to your Wi-Fi network to get back online and use internet apps and services like Facebook on your iPhone Xs Max. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. From the Home screen, select Settings.
  2. Scroll down and select General.
  3. Tap on Reset.
  4. Select Reset Network Settings option.
  5.  Enter your device passcode if asked.
  6. Select the option to confirm reset network settings.

After the network reset, your iPhone will automatically restart and then loads up the default network configurations. Re-enable wireless features particularly your iPhone’s Wi-Fi switch so that you can reconnect to the Internet. Try loading up your browser app first to see if you can access websites through the browser. If your device is able to access all websites, then that confirms that the Internet is working and that should go for Facebook too.
