Fix “Instagram keeps stopping” error on Samsung Galaxy A10

The error message ‘Instagram keeps stopping’ that’s bothering some owners of the Samsung Galaxy A10 basically means that the app has crashed or stopped working. Most of the time the error pops up when you open the app but there are times when it’s triggered by other apps as well. Troubleshooting Galaxy A10 with Instagram has stopped error

Instagram is one of the most popular apps today and it’s being updated regularly so that it would run without any problems on all platforms. However, there are times when issues occur either on the server or your phone and that could be the reason why you get the Instagram has stopped error every now and then. Now, here’s what you need to do to try and fix this problem…

First solution: Restart your phone first

The first thing you should do if reboot your device especially if it’s the first time  you encountered the Instagram has stopped error. It’s because the error could be just a result of a minor glitch in the firmware or app. More often, a simple reboot will fix issues like this. Or better yet, try to do the forced reboot which is far more effective. 

Just press the volume down and power keys at the same time and hold them together for 10 seconds or until the logo shows on the screen. Your Galaxy A10 will restart and after that, try to open the app and see if the Instagram has stopped error still shows up. If it still does, try the next solution.

Second solution: Clear cache and data of Instagram app

Now, this will reset the app back to its default settings and configuration and if the problem is with the app itself, this is enough to make it work perfectly again. It’s possible that some of its cache or data files have been corrupted as such is the case with the issues we’ve encountered before. To rule this possibility out, follow these steps to reset Instagram: 

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification down. 
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the top-right corner of the screen.
  3. Scroll to and tap Apps.
  4. Now, look for Instagram and tap on it. 
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Touch Clear cache.
  7. Touch Clear data and tap OK at the bottom of the screen to confirm your action.

After this, open the app to see if the Instagram has stopped error still pops up and if it still does, then try the next solution. 

Third solution: Update Instagram app if update is available

Apps that are developed by big companies are being updated regularly to address common issues. An update may have already been rolled out for this application so the next thing you must do is find out if there’s an update available. Here’s how it’s done…

  1. From the Home screen, tap Play Store. 
  2. Touch the Menu icon on the left side of the search bar (three lines stacked together).
  3. Tap My apps & games.
  4. Now, search for Instagram among the list. If you can find it, then there’s an update available for it. Tap the Update button on the right and wait until the process is done. 

If Instagram is not included in the list of apps with available updates, then move on to the next solution.

Fourth solution: Uninstall Instagram and then download it again

This is to make sure that you are running the latest version of Instagram on your device. Also, when you uninstall an app, you’re removing not only its cache and data files but also all its associations with other apps and services. Here’s how you do it: 

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Find and tap Instagram.
  4. Tap UNINSTALL > OK.
  5. Reboot your phone to refresh its memory. 
  6. Once it becomes active, open Play Store.
  7. Search for instagram and then install it.

When it comes to app issues, this procedure is often the end of the problem. However, if for some reason the Instagram has stopped error continues to bug you, then you have no other choice but to reset your phone.

Fifth solution: Perform the master reset

For downloaded apps, we seldom resort to resetting the device it’s because those apps actually don’t have much power to cause some serious issues with the firmware. However, what we’re actually trying to find out here is if the error is just a result of a firmware issue. We need to rule this out and I’m pretty confident that a reset will fix it. However, you will have to take a little time backing up your files and data as they will be deleted during the process. Also, please try to remove your Google and Samsung accounts before the reset so that you won’t be locked out of your device. 

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
  3. When the Galaxy A10 logo shows, release all three keys.
  4. Your Galaxy A10 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step. 
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
