Fonts or characters that are displayed on your phone are usually normal fonts. This means that they're not slant and dark. The reason why fonts have this appearance is because the default system display fonts setting is also set to normal.
If you want to add more emphasis to the display font/text, you can change the default value by heading towards the display settings menu. There, you will see the option that will make the display text/font darker and heavier.
Depicted below is the actual process of applying this setting on the new Google Pixel 7 smartphone. Feel free to refer to this guide if you need to use the boldface attribute for the display fonts instead of using normal characters.
- To get started, launch the Settings app menu by tapping on the Settings/Gear icon from the Apps tray of your phone.
Just swipe up from the bottom of the Home screen to access the Apps tray and then locate the gear icon to launch Settings from there.
- While in the Settings menu, scroll to find and then tap on Display.
Another window opens with a list of all inbuilt display features and options that you can use to customize your Pixel phone’s display.
- Scroll to find Display size and text from the given options then tap on it to continue.
Another set of features and options to manage and customize display attributes will load up next.
- Scroll down to the bottom section and then tap to turn on the switch next to Bold text.
Turning this switch will make the display font look bold (darker and heavier). You can immediately view the output through the quick preview on the upper portion of the Display size and text menu.

If you don’t feel the display appearance with bold or emphasized texts, simply toggle to turn the Bold text switch off again. Doing so will switch the display text appearance back to normal.
Bold fonts are often used to emphasize texts or highlight important points in a document. In the case with a smartphone’s system display, bold text would make every text on the screen emphasized.
Such a feature is made available to cater different proclivity of smartphone users as some people opt to use normal fonts and others prefer bold/emphasized fonts for their smartphone’s system-wide display.
