When you add phone numbers that are not associated to a Skype account, you have the option to invite these numbers to Skype through different platforms like SMS messaging, mail, Messenger, etc.
There are two easy ways on how you can add a phone number on your Skype account for iPhone. You can do this from the Contacts tab and from the Dial pad.

Launch the Skype app on your iPhone device and log in. Once you are logged in, follow the steps listed below to add a new phone number on your Skype contacts.
From Home, tap the Contact menu.
This is located on the lower-right corner of the screen.
Tap the create or add a contact icon.
This can be found at the upper-right hand corner of the screen.
Select Add a phone number.
This is where you can save a new number to your Skype contacts.
Enter the First and the last name and the phone number.
After filling out the necessary fields, tap Save to save the new phone number on your contacts.

The numbers you can add on your Skype contact can be a mobile number, home and office phone numbers; regardless of whether these are associated to a Skype account or not.
The added number will appear on your contact list. By then, you will be able to make a call or send an SMS to that number via Skype for as long as you have a sufficient credit on your account.
Additionally, sending an SMS message to a phone number on your Skype contacts will cost you a Skype credit (depending on the countries per SMS rate. Same goes when making a call to the added number using the app.
