Open Finder or iTunes app on your computer to get started. Then connect your iOS device to the computer using the original USB cable or Lightning cable that came with it. While it’s connected, force restart your iPhone with these steps but do not let go of the buttons when the Apple logo appears as you’ll have to wait until the recovery mode screen shows up:

  1. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button.
  2. Then press and quickly release the Volume Down button.
  3. Finally, press and hold the Top button until the the system restart instigates. Do not release the button when the Apple logo appears.
  4. Keep holding the Top button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen and then release. 
  5. When you see this screen, it means that your iPhone has successfully entered recovery mode and is all set for system restore.
  6. Find your iPhone X icon on your computer then tap on it to select your device.
  7. If prompted to Restore or Update, select Update to prompt your computer to reinstall the software without erase your iPhone data. Otherwise, select the Restore option.

Wait for your computer to finish downloading the software for your iOS device. The download process usually takes 15 minutes.
