What to do if personal hotspot is missing on your iPhone 8?

We’ve gotten reports from some users that personal hotspot is missing from the iPhone 8. This can happen if your APN settings in your iPhone 8 aren’t configured properly or if personal hotspot isn’t included as part of your mobile plan by your Carrier. Some people have also reported that personal hotspot is just not working on the phones.

Here is how to configure personal hotspot on the iPhone 8, or clear up any issues that could be causing it to disappear from your Settings:

  • Take the iPhone 8 you’re trying to hotspot from and perform a Reset Network Settings.
(Note: This will only erase saved WiFi passwords on your device, so remember to reconnect to WiFi after this step) .
    • Go to Settings > General and then tap on Reset.
    • Select Reset Network Settings.iphoneresetnetworksettings
  • Change the Wi-Fi Password on your Personal Hotspot to create a new connection:
    • Go into Settings > Cellular > Personal Hotspot  (sometimes Settings > Personal Hotspot directly) and change the WiFi password.
    • Turn Personal Hotspot ON.
    • Connect to the “iPhone” internet connection that should be displayed on the device you’re trying to connect from and enter the new password you configured .
  • If issue persists, or the “Personal Hotspot” option seems to be missing from your iPhone 8, verify your APN settings:
    • Go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Cellular Data Network.

    • Look up your Carrier’s APN settings and make sure they correspond to what you have configured in your iPhone 8. You can look here for your APN settings or simply google “Carrier name APN settings”.
    • Scroll to the bottom of the page where you find PERSONAL HOTSPOT and enter the same APN you have at the top under CELLULAR DATA.

    • Go back into Settings > Cellular > Personal Hotspot and turn it on and test!
    • If you still can’t find a Personal Hotspot option verify with your Carrier if that option is enabled and part of your cellphone plan. If it isn’t, the option won’t be available to you on the iPhone.
  • You can also try sharing your internet connection by plugging the iPhone directly into the computer you’re trying to connect to, then turning Personal Hotspot ON. Alternatively using Bluetooth works as well!
