Not Receiving Messages on Samsung Galaxy S6: The Easy Fix!

Not receiving text messages issue on Samsung Galaxy S6 can be rectified by verifying your phone’s settings and making sure that you haven’t added phone numbers into your text message block list. If you haven’t done this before, check the instructions we have mapped out below.

Workaround

If the problem is only with the incoming text messages, this means that there’s nothing wrong with the signal you are acquiring from the network nor the messaging app being messed up. If your phone is showing enough signal bars, you can make phone calls, and send text messages, this issue is usually caused by a number sneaking into your text message block list. To verify if this is the case, follow these steps:

  1. Go into Messages, then tap on “More” in the top right corner and select Settings.
  2. Go into Spam filter.
  3. Tap on Manage spam numbers.
  4. Make sure that the number you can’t receive messages from is not part of your spam numbers.
  5. If the number was not in your spam numbers and you still can’t receive messages from it:
    • Delete them from your Contacts app.
    • Delete the conversation you have with that contact in your Messages.
    • Turn off your Galaxy S6 for 10 seconds, then turn it back on.
    • Re-add them into your Contact list and try to text them again.
  6. If the above did not work, the issue could be from the sender’s end. Verify if the sender can send messages to other numbers.

The instructions provided above can also be applied to Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and S6 Edge Plus having issues with receiving incoming text messages.

Other Options:

If this didn’t fix the problem on your Galaxy S6, try clearing the messaging app’s cache files. Though the outbound text message feature is still working, it is still possible that Messaging app’s corrupted cache data is preventing the phone from receiving text messages. To do this, follow these:

  1. Head to Apps > Settings > APPLICATIONS  and tap the Application Manager.
  2. Swipe right to the ALL screen.
  3. Scroll to and tap Messages.
  4. Tap Clear Cache.
  5. Tap Clear Data button, and then tap OK to confirm.

After that, send your own phone number and text message to make sure that you are able to send and receive the SMS. If you are able to send the message successfully but fails to receive it, then you need to contact your network provider. Verify if there is an ongoing issue affecting the inbound SMS function and ask further assistance when needed.
