Forgot Pin Code Learn How to Unlock iPhone 8

You can easily turn on your pin code by going to Settings > General > Passcode Lock. But what will you do if you forget the pin code? Learn how to unlock iPhone 8 with forgotten pin code or locked out on this post.

Solution

The iPhone can sometimes stop recognizing your fingerprint and prompt you for your PIN code. If you happened to forget the password, passcode or pin code you set for your lock screen on your iPhone 8, the only way to regain access to your iPhone is to perform a factory restore.

Some people may claim to give you a way how to unlock iPhone 8 passcode without a restore, however unfortunately it’s simply not possible.

You can sometimes contact Apple if you still have your proof of purchase for your iPhone and try to have them remove your screen lock for you. Note that they aren’t always able to help you even if you do have a proof of purchase so take this tidbit with a grain of salt.

Apple introduced the pin lock as a security feature, hence the only way to unlock an iPhone without entering the passcode is to restore the iPhone completely and erase all personal data along with it.

Here are the two possible ways in which you can restore your iPhone 8 and regain access to it:

  • The first way you can remove the PIN code is if you had an Apple ID setup with iCloud. Here is how you can use iCloud to remove the pin lock code from your iPhone.
    1. Go to icloud.com/#find. If prompted, sign in with your iCloud Apple ID.

    2. Click All Devices at the top of your browser window.
    3. Select the device you want to erase.
    4. Click “Erase [device]” to erase your device and its passcode.
    5. Once the phone is erased, follow the steps displayed on your iPhone 8 to set it up again and choose a backup file to restore when prompted if available.
  • If you didn’t have iCloud set-up, you can erase your device using “Recovery Mode” and forcing a restore. This process can be a little tricky so follow carefully
    • Plug your iPhone 8 into your computer using a lightning cable.
    • Launch iTunes on your computer.
    • While your iPhone is connected, press and release the Volume Up button, then press and release the Volume Down button, then press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo.

    • The device will display the Apple logo. Don’t let go of the Side button until you see the recovery mode screen.

    • In your iTunes you should then see a message stating that “There is a problem with the iPhone that requires it to be updated or restored.”

    • Click Restore to continue. If there is an iOS update available, it will prompt you to update the iPhone before proceeding.
    • Once the restore and update is complete, your iPhone 8 will restart to it’s initial setup screen and you can then restore a backup from your iCloud or iTunes if available.

Exit iPhone recovery mode:

You can typically exit recovery by doing the following:

  • Press and hold the Power button and the Volume Down button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo appear (or the Connect to iTunes message disappear when in Recovery Mode). Your iPhone should then reboot normally.
