Why Can’t I Send or Receive Picture Messages on My Samsung

The first thing you need to do if you can’t send or receive picture messages on your Samsung device is to check if the Power Data Saving Mode is on. Head to Settings > Device Maintenance > Battery. If the Data Saving Mode is enabled, turn it off.

If you are still unable to send or receive picture messages after turning off Power Data Saving Mode, read further and try the additional solutions we have mapped out below.

Here are a couple things you can try to fix this issue:

  • Power off your device completely, then power it back on.
  • Make sure you have a network connection (if you have No Service click here).
  • Go to Settings > Data Usage and make sure mobile data is checked and there is no data limit blocking you.
    Note: You NEED a data connection on your Samsung smartphone to be able to send or receive picture messages (MMS). If you have a data block with your provider, make sure to contact them to remove it.
  • Go to Settings > More networks > Mobile networks > Access point names and make sure you the MMS settings from your Carrier in your APN (For all APN settings click here)
  • Make sure that Auto retrieve option is enabled.  Go to Settings > Apps > Messages > Settings > More Settings > Multimedia messages > Auto retrieve. Then try to send yourself a picture message to check if you are already able to send and receive MMS.

If you are still unable to send and receive picture messages on your Samsung device, contact your carrier network provider for additional assistance and recommendations.
