Troubleshooting Galaxy S10e with screen flickering issue

As long as your phone doesn’t have any signs of physical and/or liquid damage, the flickering screen could be due to a minor firmware issue you can fix on your own. However, if it’s due to physical or hardware damage, you should bring the phone immediately to the store so that a technician can check it for you. But assuming that the flickering started without apparent reason, follow these steps to try and fix it…

First solution: Restart your phone in Safe mode

The purpose of this procedure is to disable all third-party applications and isolate the problem immediately. It’s possible that the cause of the issue is a third-party app that has gone rogue and caused inconsistencies in the system. Here’s how you start your phone in safe mode:

  1. Press and hold the power key until the power options show on the screen.
  2. Tap and hold the Power off option until Safe mode shows.
  3. Tap the Safe mode icon to restart your phone.
  4. Once the phone has successfully rebooted, you will see the text “Safe mode” at the lower-left corner of the screen.

You don’t have to do anything special while in this mode, just continue using your phone and be observant enough to notice the screen flickering if it still occurs. If the problem is seem fixed in this mode, then it means that there’s a third-party app that’s causing the problem. Restart your phone back into normal mode and open the apps you usually use. Be mindful of the app you open to know which one is the culprit. Once you found out the app that’s causing the flickering, uninstall it.

On the other hand, if the flickering continues even if your phone is in safe mode, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Delete the system cache so it will be replaced

Another possibility that we have to rule out here is the chance that this problem is caused by corrupt system cache. The firmware creates temporary files that it uses to make your phone run smoothly. Sometimes these files get corrupted and when it happens, performance issues may occur and that could be the reason why the screen flickering issue started. To rule this possibility out, here’s what you should do:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Galaxy S10e logo shows, release all keys.
  4. Your phone will continue to boot up to reach the black screen with blue and yellow texts. When it reaches this screen, it means that it’s already in recovery mode. Continue with the wiping of the cache partition.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  6. Press Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

After this procedure, observe your phone closely to see if the screen flickering issue is fixed or not. If it still occurs, then move on to your last resort.

Third solution: Backup your files and reset your Galaxy S10e to fix the flickering screen issue

After doing the first two procedures and your Galaxy S10e’s screen is still flickering from time to time, then you have to perform the master reset to rule out the possibility that it’s an issue with the firmware.

Before the reset, create a backup of your important files and data and move them to your SD card, computer or upload them to the cloud. After the backup, remove your Google and Samsung accounts from your phone so that you won’t be locked out. After all these, follow these steps to reset your phone:

  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

If the screen flickering issue remains even after the reset, then it’s time you brought the phone to the tech so that it will be checked properly as it’s possible at this point, that the problem is with its hardware.
