What to do if your Samsung Galaxy A50 keeps lagging

When a mid-range smartphone like the Samsung Galaxy A50 keeps lagging or not as responsive as it should be, then you can always expect it to be an issue with the firmware. Performance problems are always tied to the firmware, and that could be the case here. The best thing you can do about it is to troubleshoot your phone because this issue is fixable. 

In this post, I will guide you in troubleshooting your Galaxy A50 that keeps lagging. We will try to look into all possibilities and then rule them out one by one until we can determine what the issue really is, and hopefully be able to fix it. Troubleshooting Galaxy A50 that keeps lagging

Lagging issues aren’t really that hard to fix. In fact, you might be able to fix them by doing a couple of procedures as long as the firmware has not been modified. With that being said, here’s what I suggest you do about this problem. 

First solution: Perform the Forced Restart on your phone

When it comes to possible firmware issue, the first thing you have to do is to force restart your device. It is a simulated battery removal that will refresh your device’s memory, as well as reload all its applications and services. Most of the time, if the problem is really not serious, this is enough to make things work perfectly again. Here’s how it’s done: 

1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet. 
2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well. 
3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A50 logo shows on the screen.

When the phone has finished rebooting, use it like you often do and see if it still keeps lagging. If the problem persists, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Run your phone in safe mode

Running your phone in safe mode will immediately isolate the problem. Most of the time, applications make the phone become sluggish which would result to lags and freezes. To know if this is really the case, you have to restart your Galaxy A50 in safe mode to temporarily disable all third party applications. Here’s how you do that: 

1. Press and hold the Power key until options show. 
2. Tap and hold the Power off option until it changes into Safe Mode. 
3. Tap the Safe mode icon to restart your device.
4. Once the reboot is successful, you should see ‘Safe mode’ at the lower-left corner of the screen. 

While the device is in this mode, just use it like you normally would and if the problem is fixed, then you have to do the following: 

1. Restart your phone normal to boot into standard mode. 
2. Remember the apps you installed about the time when the phone starts to keep lagging.
3. Once you already have an app in mind, swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down. 
4. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner. 
5. Scroll to and then tap Apps. 
6. Find and tap suspected app. 
7. Tap Storage. 
8. Touch Clear data and tap OK to confirm.
9. Tap the back key once and then touch Uninstall. 
10. Confirm that you want to remove the app from your phone. 

On the other hand, if your phone still keeps lagging even in safe mode, then try the next solution.

Third solution: Wipe the cache partition to fix phone that keeps lagging

There are times when the system cache gets corrupted and it often occurs after a firmware update. If you recently updated your phone’s firmware and then this problem started, it could be the cache that got corrupted. So you have to delete it so that a new one will be created. You can do so by wiping the cache partition. Here’s how it’s done on an A50: 

1. Turn off the device.
2. Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
3. When the Galaxy A50 logo shows, release all three keys.
4. Your Galaxy A50 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step. 
5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
6. Press Power key to select.
7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

When the phone has finished rebooting, try to see if it still keeps lagging. If it still does, then try the next solution.

Fourth solution: Reset all settings on your device

There are settings that can cause inconsistencies in your phone’s normal operation, especially settings under the Developer Options. But the thing is we really don’t know if it’s with your phone’s settings or not, so the best thing you can do is reset all settings. This procedure will have an effect of a factory reset but none of your files will be deleted. Here’s how it’s done: 

1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down. 
2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner. 
3. Scroll to and tap General management. 
4. Touch Reset. 
5. Tap Reset settings. 
6. Tap the Reset settings button. 
7. If prompted, enter your PIN, Password or Pattern. 
8. Finally, tap Reset.

If the phone still keeps lagging, then move on to the next solution. 

Fifth solution: Master reset your device

At this point, a master reset will be necessary, especially if your phone still keeps lagging even after doing the first four procedures. A reset will always fix app and firmware issues, however, you just need to create a backup of your important files and data, as you may not be able to retrieve them after the reset. After the backup, remove your Google account so that you won’t be locked out of your device. When ready, follow these steps to reset your phone: 

1. Turn off the device.
2. Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
3. When the Galaxy A50 logo shows, release all three keys.
4. Your Galaxy A50 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step. 
5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
6. Press Power button to select.
7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

After the reset, set up your phone as a new device and enjoy.
