Instagram crashes on Galaxy S10. Here’s the fix…

Problems like this cannot be considered serious as apps crash from time to time. If ever you encounter Instagram crashes, here are the things you have to do to fix it…

First solution: Force restart your phone

When it comes to troubleshooting a smartphone with app-related issues, it’s best to begin with a forced restart because there’s always a possibility that the problem is just due to a minor firmware issue or even a glitch. The forced reboot will refresh your phone’s memory as well as reload all its applications and services. It might be the only thing you have to do to fix this problem. Here’s how it’s done…

  1. Press and hold the volume down button and don’t release it.
  2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the power key as well.
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy S10 logo shows.

After doing this and once your phone has become active, open the app to see if Instagram crashes still. If it does, then move on to the next procedure.

Second solution: Delete Instagram’s cache

It happens so often when the app’s cache gets corrupted or becomes obsolete. The cache is a collection of temporary files that’s used by the system to make the app run smoothly. But when it gets corrupted, app crashes may occur and that could be the reason why Instagram crashes. To rule this possibility out, follow these steps:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll to and then tap Apps.
  4. Find and tap Instagram.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Touch Clear cache.

After doing this, go back to the Home screen, pull the app drawer app and then open Instagram. If Instagram crashes after this or if you get the Instagram has stopped error then it’s time to reset the app itself.

Third solution: Reset Instagram

After clearing the cache and Instagram is still crashing, the next thing to do is to delete its data. This will erase all the files that Instagram has created and needless to say, it will reset it back to its default settings and configuration. If this is just a minor issue with the app, which it usually is, then this procedure will fix the problem. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll to and then tap Apps.
  4. Find and tap Instagram.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Touch Clear data and then tap OK.

Don’t worry none of your posts, pictures and data will be deleted. After doing this, open the app to see if Instagram crashes. If it still does, then it’s time to do the next procedure.

Fourth solution: Uninstall Instagram and reinstall it

Most of the time, updating the app would be enough to address a possible compatibility issue. However, it’s best to just completely remove the app from your phone to also remove all its associations with other apps and then reinstall it to make sure you’re running the most recent version. Here’s what you need to do…

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up to bring up the app drawer.
  2. Find and then tap and hold Instagram until options appear above it.
  3. Tap Uninstall to remove it completely from your phone.
  4. Reboot your device.
  5. Once the phone has restarted, open Play Store.
  6. Search for ‘instagram’ and then tap Instagram.
  7. Tap the Install button to begin the download and installation.

Once the installation is complete, which would only take a few seconds depending on your connection, open the app to know if Instagram crashes even after this because if so, it’s possible that the problem is just a result of a firmware issue.

Fifth solution: Backup files and reset your phone

After doing all those procedures and Instagram crashes still, then it’s time to reset your phone as the problem could be due to a firmware issue. But before the reset, make sure to create a backup of your important files and data as they will all be deleted. After the backup, make sure remove your Google and Samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out of your device after the reset. Here’s how to reset your phone:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Samsung Galaxy S10 logo shows on the screen, release all keys.
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
  7. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  8. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

After the reset, set up your phone and then download Instagram first and try to see if it still crashes or not.
