Here are the steps to use the Instagram promote button:
- Open your Instagram app and access your Profile.
Tap the profile icon at the bottom right corner.
- Scroll down and look for the post that you want to promote.
They are shown as picture tiles. Select the picture that you desire to promote.
- Once you’ve selected the photo, tap on Promote.
This is the option just below the picture at the bottom right.
- Select the Destination and tap on the arrow at the top right.
This is the option where people would see the action of your promotion. For example, if you’ll select Your Profile – they will see Visit Instagram Profile on your post.
- Select your Audience and tap the arrow at the top right.
Automatic option works like your followers as it will look for those who have reacted with your posts and maybe they would like to see relevant contents. The Manual option will allow you to control your own audience based on the location, age, interests or gender. You can add many interests to maximize your potential audience size.
- Select your Budget & Duration and tap on the arrow at the top right.
This is where you’ll set how much you would like to pay for your promotion. The selected budget will affect the number of audiences that will see your promotion. Instagram suggests to spend at least $4 as the starting budget. The duration is the number of days that the promotion will be aired on Instagram and when it will end. It is recommended to promote your post for at least 6 days to allow more engagement from the audience.
- Review the details and tap on Create Promotion.
If you have not set your payment method, it would likely ask before reviewing the details. Just enter your card or bank details and agree with the terms and conditions.

After creating a promotion, it will show as pending approval at the bottom right of the post. Just wait for the confirmation that it has been approved. To view the statistics of your promoted post, tap on Insights and it will show you the details. This is where you’ll see how many audiences have seen your post and how much is spent on your budget.
