Troubleshooting Galaxy A20 with ‘Facebook keeps stopping’ error

App-related problems aren’t really that serious and I’m confident that after following the procedures in this post, you will be able to fix your Galaxy A20 and the app that keeps on crashing. However, we need to be very thorough when trying to fix a problem like this. That said, here’s what you need to do:

First solution: Force restart your phone

The very first thing that you have to do when dealing with a problem like this is the forced reboot, especially if it’s the first time that you encountered this issue. It is because the ‘Facebook keeps stopping’ error can be triggered by a minor firmware issue or even a glitch. The forced restart is a simulated battery removal that refreshes your phone’s memory as well as reloads all apps and services. This is how you do it:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
  2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A20 logo shows on the screen.

Once the phone has successfully restarted, open the app to see if ‘Facebook keeps stopping’ error still shows up. If it does, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Clear the cache and data of Facebook

If the problem isn’t due to a minor firmware issue or glitch, then it can be an issue with the app itself. The next thing that you have to do is reset Facebook, and it means to clear its cache and data. This will bring the app back to its default configuration, delete all its cache and data files, and then replace them with new ones. If it’s just an issue with the app, then this procedure should be able to fix it. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll to and then tap Apps.
  4. Find and tap Facebook.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Touch Clear cache.
  7. Touch Clear data and then tap OK to confirm.

After doing this, try to launch the app to see if the ‘Facebook keeps stopping’ error still shows up. If it does, then move on to the next solution.

Third solution: Run your phone in Safe Mode

It is possible that a third-party application is causing Facebook to crash. Being the most popular social network, many apps use the app’s services for sharing and other things. Therefore, it is possible that one of those apps have an issue and affected Facebook. That’s the reason why you need to do this procedure. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Press and hold the Power key until options show.
  2. Tap and hold the Power off option until it changes into Safe Mode.
  3. Tap the Safe mode icon to restart your device.
  4. Once the reboot is successful, you should see ‘Safe mode’ at the lower-left corner of the screen.

While in safe mode, you should still be able to use Facebook, try to launch it and see if the ‘Facebook keeps stopping’ error still pops up. If the problem doesn’t occur while in this mode, then the issue isn’t really that serious and you will be able to fix it using these steps:

  1. Restart your phone normal to boot into standard mode.
  2. Remember the apps you installed around the time when the ‘Facebook keeps stopping’ error started to show
  3. Once you already have an app in mind, swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  4. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  5. Scroll to and then tap Apps.
  6. Find and tap suspected app.
  7. Tap Storage.
  8. Touch Clear data and tap OK to confirm.
  9. Tap the back key once and then touch Uninstall.
  10. Confirm that you want to remove the app from your phone.

However, if the problem occurs even in safe mode, then move on to the next solution.

Fourth solution: Wipe cache partition

When the system cache gets corrupted, it may also lead to app crashes and that could be the case here. Therefore, the next thing that you have to do is to delete the old cache so that it will be replaced with a new one. Don’t worry, none of your files or data will be deleted if you did this. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
  3. When the Galaxy A20 logo shows, release all three keys.
  4. Your Galaxy A20 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  6. Press Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Once your phone has successfully rebooted, open the app and see if the ‘Facebook keeps stopping’ error still shows up. If it does, move on to the next solution.

Fifth solution: Backup your files and reset your phone

Here’s a fact, a reset can always fix any app-related problem as long as the firmware has not been modified in any way. In this case, you will be able to get rid of the ‘Facebook keeps stopping’ error by resetting your phone but make sure to create a copy of your important files and data, especially the ones that are saved in your phone’s internal storage. Those files will be deleted during the reset process and you may not be able to retrieve them after that. After the backup, remove your Google and Samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out of your device after the reset.

When ready, follow these steps to reset your phone:

  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
