This post will walk you through carrying out fingerprint registration on the Galaxy S21 smartphone for fingerprint unlock. Read on to learn how to register or add fingerprint on Samsung Galaxy S21.
When Samsung rolled out the Galaxy S9 series, augmented security features were likewise introduced. Among these is Samsung’s very own biometric security features or biometric authentication. These offer users a better way of keeping their respective devices secure.
What is Fingerprint Unlock?
Fingerprint unlock is an advanced security (biometrics) feature embedded in modern smartphones like the Galaxy S21.
As the name implies, it locks and unlocks the device with your fingerprint. In order to use this feature, you will need to register your fingerprint beforehand. This denotes scanning your fingerprint using the built-in fingerprint scanner or setup wizard.

Steps Add Fingerprint on Samsung Galaxy S21
The following steps will help you complete the Galaxy S21 fingerprint security setup. This method is also applicable when registering or adding a new fingerprint on other Samsung Galaxy smartphones with the same UI or Android version with the GS21. Actual screens and menu options may vary between device models.
Step 1: Launch the Apps viewer and then tap the Settings icon to open the main settings menu.
Step 2: While on the Settings menu, tap Biometrics and security. Advanced security features including fingerprints and face recognition will be displayed.
Step 3: Tap Fingerprints to proceed and then enter your screen lock pattern or passcode if prompted. On the succeeding menu, you’ll see relevant options with all registered fingerprints.
Step 4: To register a new fingerprint, tap Add fingerprint. The Fingerprint scanning wizard launches, prompting a step by step instruction.
Step 5: Position your finger on the sensor to begin scanning and follow the rest of the onscreen prompts to complete the scanning process.
This could take a few minutes depending on how you respond to the scanning procedure. You will see the percentage level depicting your current scanning status. Just continue scanning your fingerprint until the percentage level reaches 100.
As soon as it reaches a hundred percent (100%), you’ll see a message prompt saying that the fingerprint is added successfully or something similar.
Step 6: To add another fingerprint tap Add. Else, tap Done.
The new fingerprint will then be added to the existing list.
Should you wish to change the label, tap on the desired fingerprint and then enter the new name you’d like to use and then save the changes.
Don’t forget to verify your print…
- To verify and confirm if the new fingerprint registration is successful, tap the option to Check added fingerprints under the Fingerprints menu.
- On the succeeding screen, place your fingerprint on the screen sensor. The phone will then identify the fingerprint by prompting the fingerprint name or label.
Just repeat the same steps to add another fingerprint(s) on your device.
What to do if fingerprint unlock fails?
If you couldn’t get to register a new fingerprint, make sure that your fingerprint scanner is clean and the fingerprint sensor not obstructed. Also ensure that your finger is properly positioned on the fingerprint sensor and that it’s free from any sort of oil and dirt. If that doesn’t work, try rebooting the phone and retry launching the fingerprint scanner/setup wizard.
In the case where the fingerprint has already been added but the print is not recognized by the sensor, enter your password, pattern or regular PIN instead. And if all else fails, you can use the Find My Mobile app to unlock your phone remotely.
Deleting a fingerprint on Samsung Galaxy S21
Please note that there’s a limit on the number of fingerprints to be registered on the device. So far, you can only add up to four fingerprints on your device. That’s the maximum number of fingerprints you can register.
If you want to register a new fingerprint but the maximum number is already reached, you will need to delete any from the existing prints.
The process of removing/deleting a registered fingerprint on the Galaxy S21 is fairly simple. For starters, just follow these steps:
- To delete a fingerprint on the Galaxy S21, just go back to Settings-> Biometrics and security-> Fingerprints menu and then tap the fingerprint that you want to delete.
- On the succeeding screen, tap the Remove command on the upper-right corner and then tap Remove on the following screen to confirm.
After removing the fingerprint, you can register a new fingerprint on your device.
The fingerprint unlock (fingerprint recognition) feature will automatically be disabled if you remove all registered fingerprints. That’s how the Galaxy S21 fingerprint system is designed to work by default. To keep the feature active, be sure to leave at least 1 print.
And that’s all about registering or adding a new fingerprint on the Samsung Galaxy S21 smartphone.
Hope this helps!
