If you want to optimize iPhone Spotify app but you are in a WiFi dead zone and have a limited data plan, read this post so you will be guided on how to manage your Cellular Data without compromising your music-streaming experience.
Aside from Apple Music, Spotify is an alternative music streaming app users are using on their iOS devices. Technically, Spotify will let you download songs but you can’t save them on your phone’s folder. Instead, the downloaded album/playlist will be saved directly to your Spotify library and be able to listen to them even without internet connection.
However, downloading music for offline streaming requires a stable internet connection. And oftentimes, iPhone Spotify is streamed on a higher quality when connected to WiFi. Hence, we can still achieve good streaming quality on a cellular data network without going beyond your data plan—without experiencing buffering issues.
We have mapped out below the steps of changing the Spotify Settings to optimize iPhone Spotify App with less cellular data usage. Read further…
How To Optimize iPhone Spotify App To Use Less Cellular Data
Time Needed : 03 minutes
The best way to optimize iPhone Spotify app is to download your favorite playlists using WiFi and configure Spotify settings for better quality when streaming offline. Here is what you need to do:
- From the Home screen, launch the Spotify app.
You can slide left or right to navigate through your apps.
- Then tap the Spotify Settings icon.
The settings icon is located on the top-right corner of the Spotify screen.
- Scroll to and tap the Music Quality section.
This section provides you streaming options such as Automatic, Low which is equivalent to roughly 24 kbits/s, Normal is 96 kbits/s, High is 160 kbits/s, and Very High to 320 kbits/s.
- Set Streaming quality to Automatic.
Doing so will let the Spotify app control the streaming quality depending on the network you are using. When using cellular data connection, Spotify will optimize the non-cached songs streaming quality to use less cellular data and avoid buffering problems. Thus, its streaming quality will become finer once connected to WiFi.
- For Download quality, we recommend to set it to Very High.
This is to ensure that you'll get the best quality of the downloaded album or playlist especially when streaming while connected to a WiFi network.
- Scroll to Download Using Cellular and toggle the switch to turn it off.
Turning this option off will ensure that Spotify won’t download album or playlist when Cellular Data is enabled. It is recommended to download songs for offline streaming when connected to WiFi. Doing so won't affect your data plan at all.
Note that Spotify won’t let you download a specific song. Hence, it will require you to download the entire album or playlist. So if you’re on a limited data plan, better use WiFi to download your favorite playlists for offline streaming. Afterwards, configure the Spotify settings using the provided steps above to ensure that you’ll still have a good streaming quality experience even without WiFi around.
It’s like hitting two birds in one stone. You’re able to enjoy your songs in Spotify without hurting your Cellular Data plan.
