No Service on Nexus After Performing Software Update

Performing an android software update on a Nexus can sometimes cause network issues. The Nexus might lose connection like no service on Nexus and display the “Emergency Calls Only” or “No Service” message.  If you’ve just performed the latest android software update and are experiencing network issues on your Nexus then follow these steps:

  • Go into Settings > Storage and tap on Cached Data and select ok to clear data.
  • Go into Settings > More > Cellular Networks > Preferred network type.
  • Select “2G” as your preferred network mode.
  • Turn your Nexus off completely, wait 10 seconds and then turn it back on again.
  • Go back into Preferred Network type as shown above and switch it to 3G.

If you are still unable to connect, perform a backup and restore of your device. This might eradicate complex system issues that’s causing the No Service error on your Nexus smartphone.

Just tap the All apps icon from the Home screen. Select Settings and scroll to PERSONAL, then tap Backup & reset. Tap on Back up my data to back up any account data, Wi-Fi passwords, and other data to Google servers. Select Automatic restore to restore backed up settings and data when re-installing applications.

There are instances that system maintenance and updates on your network provider’s end will coincide after installing the software update. These things may often result in related symptoms to occur.

Contacting your network provider may also help in sorting things out. If there’s a scheduled server maintenance on their side, just wait for it to finish and your service should be reinstated.

If you’ve found out that everything is good on their system and your Nexus phone still has a no service prompt, you may need to contact Nexus support for additional assistance. Hardware issues like a damaged or defective signal receptor may also trigger this issue on your device.
