My iPhone keeps restarting after iOS 13.2.3 update, is it a hardware issue?

When a high-end smartphone like an iPhone keeps restarting after an update, it’s more likely just a firmware-related issue than a hardware, provided that your device does not have any signs of physical or liquid damage, or it hasn’t been dropped after an update. If ever there are signs of physical damage, then it could be a hardware issue and there’s only so much you can do about it if that’s the case.

On the other hand, if it’s just an issue with the firmware that started after the iOS 13.2.3 update, or any iOS update for that matter, then you can fix this problem on your own without any help from a tech. All you need to do is perform some basic troubleshooting procedures and that’s the purpose of this post. I will guide you in fixing your iPhone that keeps restarting by itself after the iOS 13.2.3 update. Read on.

Fixing an iPhone that keeps restarting after iOS 13.2.3

Random reboots can be considered one of the performance issues you may encounter every now and then. Most of the time, it’s just a minor firmware issue, especially if there are no signs of physical or liquid damage. However, if you yourself knew that the phone incurred some physical damage then the best thing you can do is bring it to the Genius Bar and have an Apple tech check it for you. But assuming that this problem started without apparent reason or cause, then here’s what you need to do:

First solution: Connect your iPhone to its charger

The purpose of this procedure is to know if your iPhone does not reboot if it has a stable power source because if that’s the case, then it’s clear enough that the problem is with the battery or one of the hardware components. If the battery fails, the first symptom would the random reboots.

So, after connecting your iPhone to the charger, let it charge for a couple of minutes and then try using it and wait if it reboots. If it still does, at least, the possibility that the problem is software-related is high and you may be able to fix it on your own without going to the Genius Bar.

Second solution: Reset all the settings

This will immediately rule out the possibility that some of the settings on your iPhone are causing the problem. Some cache files may have been corrupted and need replacement and that could be the reason why your iPhone keeps restarting.

Resetting all the settings will bring your iPhone back to its original settings or configuration without deleting your personal files, apps and information. It is a very effective solution to various issues including this one. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Find and tap General.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and then touch Reset.
  4. Touch Reset All Settings.
  5. If prompted, enter your security lock.
  6. Tap Reset All Settings at the bottom of the screen, and then tap Reset All Settings again to confirm.

Your iPhone will reboot after this, once it has finished rebooting, try to use the phone as you normally would to see if it still shuts down or reboots at some point. If it does, then move on to the next solution.

Third solution: Factory reset your iPhone

Most of the time, any firmware-related issues can be fixed with a reset so if your iPhone still keeps restarting even after doing the first two procedures, then you are required to reset your iPhone. But prior to the reset, make sure to sync your iPhone with your iCloud account to backup your files and data. Or you may connect your iPhone to your Mac or PC and copy your pictures and videos. After the backup, follow these steps to reset your iPhone:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Find and tap General.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and then touch Reset.
  4. Tap Erase All Contents and Settings.
  5. Tap Erase Now.
  6. If prompted, enter your security lock.
  7. Tap Erase iPhone at the bottom of the screen.
  8. Tap Erase iPhone again to proceed with the reset.
  9. Now enter your Apple ID’s password and wait until the reset is complete.

Once the reset is finished, set up your iPhone as a new device and don’t restore anything yet until you’re sure that it doesn’t reboot by itself. However, after the reset and your iPhone still keeps restarting on its own, then try the next solution.
