What to do if Messenger keeps crashing on iPhone XR iOS 13
Actually, it’s easy to fix third-party applications that are malfunctioning. One obvious reason is that you can just remove the app and the errors or problems should also go away with it. But then of course, we know that you need to use the app and so you have to find a real solution to continue using it without any problem. So, here are the things you need to do if Messenger keeps crashing on your iPhone XR that runs on iOS 13…
First solution: Restart your iPhone first
The first thing that you need to do is to refresh your iPhone’s memory because maybe the reason why the app keeps on crashing is because the device is already running low on RAM or CPU, especially if there are a lot of apps running in the background. Rebooting the device will release the RAM being using by other apps as well as refresh the memory. So, here’s what you need to do to restart it:
- Press any of the volume buttons and the power key at the same time, and hold them both for 5 seconds or until the slider shows.
- Drag the slider to the right to turn your iPhone off.
- After a few seconds of being turned off, press and hold the power key until the logo shows.
Once your iPhone has successfully rebooted, launch Messenger and see if it still crashes.

Second solution: Quit Messenger and reopen it
Most of the time, the reason why apps crash is because some of their services have been stopped by the system to favor other apps that’s currently being used by the user. So by the time you revert to the app you previously used, in this case, Messenger, it would crash or stop working. To rule this possibility out, here’s what you need to do:
- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and stop at the middle to view app previews.
- Swipe up on Messenger preview to close it.
- Do the same to all other previews to release the RAM these apps are using.
After doing this, open the app and see if Messenger still crashes.

Third solution: Uninstall Messenger and reinstall it
Assuming that the previous procedures failed to fix the problem, then what you need to do next is to remove the app from your iPhone. This will not just uninstall the app but also remove all its associations with the firmware and other applications. After that, you have to reinstall it to make sure you’re using the latest version. Here’s how you do it:
- Go to the screen where the Messenger app is located.
- Touch and hold the the icon until the icons start to jiggle. Don’t release it even if options show up halfway through holding the icon.
- Tap the X on the upper-left side of the Messenger icon.
- Touch Delete to confirm you want to uninstall it.
- Once the app has successfully been uninstalled, tap Done and return to the Home screen.
- Launch the App Store.
- Search for Messenger, and then tap on the Download icon next to it.
- Wait until the installation is complete.
