First solution: Reboot your iPhone XS (soft reset/forced restart).

Voicemail feature is dependent on your cellular network connection so it could work properly on your device. If your carrier network has experienced minor system issues, giving a refresh to your iPhone system will eliminate the flaws and help resolve the visual voicemail issue on your device. To do a soft reset or standard reboot on your iPhone, simply follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold the Side/Power button and either of the Volume buttons simultaneously for a few seconds.
  2. Once you see the Slide to Power Off command, release the buttons then drag the power off slider to the right.
  3. Wait for 30 seconds then press and hold the Side/Power button again until it restarts.

If this procedure did not solve the problem, try performing a force restart on your iPhone XS. This will simultaneously end all background apps, services and system functions hence forcing your iPhone to reboot. Your iPhone screen might have been stuck and so the voicemail button becomes unresponsive. To fix it, force restart your iPhone XS with these steps:

  1. Press and release the Volume Up button quickly.
  2. Press and release the Volume Down button quickly.
  3. Lastly, press and hold the Side button for a few seconds until you see the Apple logo.

After the phone reboots, access your voicemail and see if the problem is gone. If your iPhone XS voicemail button is still unresponsive, proceed to the next solution.
