Do you have an iMessage not working on iPhone 12? Is this the first time that you have encountered a problem while using the iMessage function? Then read on and find out how you can rectify this problem by following the recommendations found on this post.

How to Resolve iMessage that is Not Working on iPhone 12

iMessage is an iOS feature that allows you to send messages to other iOS users, as long as you have an internet connection on your device. However, this functionality can be affected by several factors and may result in a non-working iMessage feature.

iMessage may not work if you are using a data connection and the network is having some system maintenance on their end that is affecting their internet services. Same goes if you are using a WiFi connection and your internet service provider is having some system enhancements on their system.

To ensure that those factors are not affecting how your iMessage is behaving, contact your internet service provider and verify if they have an ongoing system maintenance that could have been affecting the internet connectivity on your device.

If you have verified that the internet service that you are using is not having an issue and iMessage has been configured properly on your device, then follow the provided steps below and fix the iMessage not working on iPhone 12 issue.

First Solution: Restart your iPhone 12

The goal of this procedure is simple – to give your phone a quick system refresh. A lot of smartphone users would often neglect performing this simple troubleshooting process, without knowing that it could easily cure problems caused by minor software glitches. A reset might just be what you’ll need to fix the iMessage that is not working on your iPhone 12.

You can perform a soft reset to restart your iPhone:

  1. Press and hold the Power/Side button and either of the Volume buttons simultaneously for a few seconds.
  2. Release both buttons once the Slide to Power off prompt appears on the screen.
  3. Drag the Power off slider to the right to turn off your phone.
  4. After 30 seconds, press and hold the Power/Side button again until you see the Apple logo.

Or you can do a force restart:

  1. Press and release the Volume Up button quickly.
  2. Press and release the Volume Down button quickly.
  3. Lastly, press and hold the Side button for a few seconds until you see the Apple logo.

Both give the same benefits and there is no harm if you want to perform both of the procedures.

Second Solution: Turn iMessage Off and On on your iPhone 12

A simple glitch may affect the functionality of some features. Disabling and enabling the iMessage on your iPhone 12 is a great way to remove those glitches and may allow the feature to work properly. If you haven’t performed this procedure yet, then it is time to do that.

  1. From the Home screen, select Settings.
  2. Tap Messages.
  3. Toggle the switch to turn off iMessage.
  4. Perform a soft reset on your iPhone 12. You may perform the usual reboot process by pressing the Power/Slide button until the Slide to Power off button appears. Drag the slider to the right to turn off your phone. Wait for 30 seconds then turn on your  phone by pressing the Power/Side button again.
  5. After the reboot process is done, go back to Settings > Messages.
  6. Toggle the switch again to turn iMessage on

Once you have enabled iMessage again, test it to verify if you are now able to use it this time.

Third Solution: Reset Network Settings on your iPhone 12

A properly configured network setting is needed for online services like iMessage to work properly. If you have manually configured or altered some network settings on your iPhone, that may have caused the iMessage to act up and not work on the device.

The purpose of doing a reset network settings procedure is to clear all manually configured network settings and revert them to their default values and options. This process will not affect your personal information and data.

  1. Access Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Scroll down to and then select Reset
  4. Tap the Reset Network Settings option.
  5. Enter your device passcode once prompted.
  6. Then tap to confirm network settings reset.

Once the reset process has been completed, enable the iMessage feature and check out if you are able to use the iMessage function this time.

Fourth Solution: Restore your iPhone 12 via Recovery Mode

If performing the procedures above did not fix the problem, then it’s time to do a more advanced procedure to resolve the iMessage issue on your iPhone 12. To carry out this process, you’ll need to prepare a Mac or Windows computer with the latest iTunes installed and a good internet connection. Also ensure that your computer runs on the latest operating system that is compatible with your iPhone 12.

If all requirements are met, open the iTunes and connect your device to the computer using the Apple-supplied USB/lightning cable. Then allow iTunes to sync with your iPhone and backup files, if possible. Once the backup is secured, follow these steps to put your iPhone 12 in recovery mode and then restore iOS in iTunes:

  1. Press and release the Volume Up button quickly.
  2. Press and release the Volume Down button quickly.
  3. Then press and hold the Power/Side button once prompted with Connect to iTunes screen. Do not release the button when the Apple logo appears as you will need to enter recovery mode state.
  4. Once you enter the recovery mode, you’ll see either Update or Restore option.
  5. Select Restore if you want to reinstall and download iOS on your device without erasing data.

Do not disconnect your phone and keep it connected until the entire restore process is finished.
