Mapped out below are simple ways to eliminate software-related factors that might have slowed down your iPhone’s internet connection. Read on for more detailed solutions.

First solution: Turn your wireless modem/router off and then on again.

A faulty network device may be the root cause of the problem and so you have to consider scrutinizing your wireless router or modem first.  Should the problem be attributed to minor firmware crashes on the main source of your Internet connection, then performing the so-called power cycle or turning the wireless modem/router off and on will usually suffice. This will help clear out any corrupted data segments that might have ruined your modem/router’s internet system. If you can access your network equipment at the moment, follow these steps to power cycle it:

  1. Press and hold the Power switch of the wireless router/modem to turn it off.
  2. Once its turned off, unplug the AC adapter from the power outlet
  3. Wait for about 1 to 2 minutes and then plug the AC adapter back into the power outlet/
  4. Finally, press the Power switch to turn the wireless router/modem back on.

Allow your wireless router/modem to stabilize network connections. As soon as you see the Wi-Fi signal indicator becomes stable you can go ahead and reconnect your iPhone to the Wi-Fi network and check if you’re now able to browse faster.

Second solution: Soft reset (restart) your iPhone XS.

A slow internet connection could also be attributed to some minor system glitches that caused network errors on your iPhone. To clear this out, rebooting your iPhone is recommended. Doing so will also help clear and refresh your phone’s network system and thereby speed up its internet functions. This doesn’t affect any saved data on the internal memory, thus creating backups won’t be necessary. Just proceed to these steps whenever you’re ready:

  1. Press and hold the Power/Side button and either of the Volume buttons simultaneously for a few seconds.
  2. Release the buttons once the Slide to Power off prompts on the screen.
  3. Drag the Power off slider to the right to turn off your phone.
  4. Wait for 30 seconds, then press and hold the Power/Side button again until the Apple logo appears.

Allow your phone to boot up then try connecting to the Internet and check if the slow connection problem has been rectified.

Aside from performing a soft reset/reboot, clearing cache and deleting cookies on your browser might also help solve the problem. Temporary browsing data and internet cookies can also slow down your Internet connection when they accumulate. If you’re using the built-in Safari app browser on your iPhone XR, follow these steps to clear its cache and browsing data:

  1. Access Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Scroll down to and select Safari.
  3. Tap Advanced.
  4. Select Website Data option.
  5. Check the total space usage of the website and then tap Remove All Website Data.

After getting a confirmation message that the clearing of cache and browsing data from the Safari app has been completed, perform a soft reset on your iPhone XS. As soon as it boots up, open the Safari browser app again and try visiting different websites to check if the internet connection speed has improved or gone back to normal.

Third solution: Disable then enable Wi-Fi connection on your phone.

Minor wireless connectivity errors like slow browsing or slow internet connection are sometimes resolved by refreshing the Wi-Fi connection on your phone. Doing so eliminates random flaws affecting your phone’s wireless functions. Just follow these steps:

  1. Access Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Select Wi-Fi menu and then tap the switch to turn it off.
  3. While Wi-Fi feature is turned off, restart (soft reset) your iPhone XS.
  4. Go back to Settings > Wi-Fi then toggle the switch to turn Wi-Fi on.

Alternatively, you can also enable/disable airplane mode to refresh the wireless connections on your phone. Enabling airplane mode will turn off all wireless radios on your device including Wi-Fi, while disabling it turns wireless features back on. This therefore gives a quick refresh to your phone’s internet connection. If think it’s worth a shot, then you too can give it a try. Simply follow these steps when ready:

  1. Access Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Select the Airplane Mode menu.
  3. Tap the Airplane mode switch to turn it on.
  4. While the Airplane mode is enabled, perform a soft reset on your phone.
  5. Once the phone is finished booting up, go back to Settings  > Airplane mode then toggle the switch to disable the feature.

Wait for your phone to re-establish wireless radio connections. Then enable Wi-Fi to reconnect to your Wi-Fi network and get back online. When it’s connected, open your browse and do some test browsing to see if the internet connection is getting better and faster.

Fourth solution: Forget Wi-Fi networks then connect again.

Forgetting or deleting Wi-Fi networks will help fix wireless internet problems including slow browsing that are attributed to a corrupt Wi-Fi network. Doing so will remove the problematic Wi-Fi network from your phone’s Wi-Fi network directory. Then adding the network back will allow your device to reconnect like the first time it does. Just refer to these steps:

  1. Access Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Select Wi-Fi menu. If it’s disabled, just tap the switch to enable it.
  3. You will then be prompted with the list of available networks. Select your Wi-Fi network and then tap the information (i) icon next to the SSID of the Wi-Fi network name.
  4. Select the Forget This Network option.
  5. Tap Forget when asked to confirm the network deletion.

If  you have multiple saved Wi-Fi networks, delete them all to prevent any of them from causing conflicts with the Wi-Fi network that you’re using. After deleting all Wi-Fi networks, perform a soft reset (restart) on your iPhone XS to clear its network cache.

When your phone is finished rebooting, head back to Settings > Wi-Fi menu then toggle the switch to turn Wi-Fi back on again. Allow your phone to scan for available Wi-Fi networks. Select the Wi-Fi network that you would like to use and then follow the on-screen instructions to join or connect to the network. Be sure to input the correct network password when asked to continue.

Fifth solution: Reset network settings on your iPhone XS.

Incorrect settings and invalid network customization are also among other factors that could slow down your iPhone’s internet connection. To clear this out, performing a reset on the network settings can help. Doing so will remove all misconfigured network settings and revert them to the default configuration. Simply refer to these steps if you wish to try it:

  1. Access Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Scroll down to and then select Reset
  4. Tap the Reset Network Settings option.
  5. Enter your device passcode once prompted.
  6. Then tap to confirm network settings reset.

Your device will reboot automatically after the reset. Once it boots up, you’ll need to set up the Wi-Fi network again to reconnect and get back online. After reconnecting, launch your browser app and check if the slow internet connection problem has been resolved.
