How to fix Apple iPhone XR slow browsing problem

Troubleshooting iPhone XR with slow browsing issue

Slow browsing problems are actually pretty annoying but most of the time they’re actually not serious. You could have just a minor and temporary problem with your internet connection if you’re connected to your own network, or it could be just a minor problem with your device itself. The following solutions will help you fix the slow browsing problem on your iPhone XR. Try to see what works for you…

Solution #1: Reboot or power cycle your wireless router/modem.

This solution is only applicable to those who are using a wireless network connection for their internet service. Having a slow internet connection is an indication of a weak signal source. Being said, troubleshooting the internet source which is the router or modem is the first thing that we need to do.

  1. Press and hold the power button to turn off the router/modem.
  2. Unplug the AC adapter from the power outlet for about 30 seconds.
  3. After the elapsed time, plug the AC adapter back into the power outlet.
  4. Press and hold the power button again to turn the router/modem back on.

Once the lights of the router/modem become stable, turn on or enable Wi-Fi on your iPhone XR and allow it to connect to your Wi-Fi network. When the phone is connected to the wireless network, open your browser and see if your Internet speed has improved. If you are having slow internet connection, proceed to the next solution.

Solution #2: Restart (soft reset) your iPhone XR.

Slow internet browsing issue can be rectified by doing a restart on your phone. In fact, this is the simplest yet very effective solutions to try first. Doing so will eliminate minor system errors that may have caused intermittent internet connection without affecting any saved information on the phone. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Press and hold the Side button and either Volume buttons simultaneously for a few seconds.
  2. Once the Slide to Power off command appears, release both buttons.
  3. Drag the power off slider to the right to turn off the phone.
  4. After 30 seconds, press and hold the Side button (power button) until it restarts.

Once the phone has completely boots up, open your browser and try to browse through any website. If the internet is still very slow, might as well clear cache and cookies on your browser app.

  • If you are using the built-in browser which is Safari, you can clear the cookies and temporary internet files by heading to Settings-> Safari-> Advanced-> Website Data-> Remove All Website Data section.
  • If you’re using a third-party browser, you will need to delete and reinstall the app in order to clear its cache files and browsing history.

After deleting the caches and cookies from your browser, reboot your phone one more time and then try loading any internet-enabled apps or navigate different websites on your browser app and see if the problem is gone.

Solution #3: Disable/Enable the Wi-Fi on your iPhone XR.

The next possible solution to try is an Internet refresh or Wi-Fi restart. It effectively eliminates minor glitches affecting the phone’s wireless functions that could have resulted to slow browsing. Refreshing the internet connection on your phone can be done by simply turning the Wi-Fi switch off and on. Here is how you do it:

  1. From the Home screen, go to Settings.
  2. Select the Wi-Fi menu.
  3. Toggle the Wi-Fi switch/indicator to turn the feature off, and then soft reset your phone.
  4. Once it’s back on, head back to Settings.
  5. Tap the Wi-Fi menu, and toggle the switch to turn it back on.

Alternatively, you can toggle the Airplane Mode switch from the Control Center. To do this, simply open the Control Center and then toggle the Airplane mode icon to turn it on and off. If you are utilizing cellular data for your Internet, turning Cellular Data off and on can also help fix such minor Internet browsing flaws. To do this, just go to Settings-> Cellular menu and then toggle the switch to turn Cellular Data OFF for a few seconds and then tap the switch again to turn it back ON.

Wait for your device to reconnect to the Internet and then test to see if the browsing speed has improved.

Solution #4: Forget and reconnect your Wi-Fi network.

Corrupted Wi-Fi network can also yield to slow browsing issues. If your Wi-Fi network in use gets corrupted, there is a tendency for it to randomly stop working and should that happens, your browsing experience could become adversely affected. To rule this out, forgetting the Wi-Fi network can help. Doing so deletes the network from your phone and then lets you set it up again as new. Be sure to take note of your Wi-Fi network’s password prior to deleting it because you will need to input it later to reconnect. To forget your Wi-Fi network, follow these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, go to Settings.
  2. Select the Wi-Fi menu.
  3. Tap the information icon (i) next to name of the Wi-Fi network that you wish to delete.
  4. Tap the Forget This Network option.
  5. Then tap Forget to confirm.
  6. You can also delete the remaining saved networks to avoid having some sort of network conflict, which may result to a problem.

After deleting all saved wireless networks, reboot your iPhone XR. Wait for your phone to finish rebooting and then add the network again by going to Settings-> Wi-Fi men. Toggle the switch to turn the Wi-Fi back on. Once your Wi-Fi is enabled, a list of available networks will appear. Select the name of your Wi-Fi network and tap on it, enter the correct network password then tap Join to reconnect.

Solution #5: Reset network settings on your iPhone.

It is also possible that the phone is experiencing slow internet browsing problem due to some misconfigured or incorrect network settings. This is when you should consider resetting the network settings on your phone. Any network-related problem will be eliminated and the settings of your phone will be restored to the default configuration. All the networks saved on your phone including Wi-Fi networks are also removed in the process, so be sure to take note of your Wi-Fi password beforehand. To connect to Wi-Fi again, you will need to enter your Wi-Fi password after the reset. Here’s how it works:

  1. From the Home screen, go to Settings.
  2. Select General.
  3. Scroll down to and tap on Reset.
  4. Select the Reset network settings option.
  5. When prompted, enter your device passcode.
  6. Then tap the Reset network settings option to confirm the reset.

Wait until your phone has booted up completely. Once the phone is already back on, enable your Wi-Fi and re-join/reconnect to your wireless network. Your phone should be showing “connected” when you have successfully connected to the network. Then, test some websites or any internet-required apps and check if the slow internet browsing problem has been fixed.

Still having slow browsing problem on your iPhone?
