The App Store is a platform developed and maintained by Apple Inc. that provides millions of mobile apps that can be downloaded and installed on its very own iOS devices.
It is already a usual routine for almost all iOS users to install pending apps updates after having major system changes to maintain the smooth performance of their respective devices. But what if Apple’s very own App Store does not work anymore after iOS 13?
In this article, we have mapped out possible solutions as well as the common triggers for the App Store not working issue in iOS 13. Read on and learn simple techniques you can use whenever your App Store stops working after the iOS 13 implementation on your iPhone XR device.
Before we proceed, if you’re looking for a solution to a problem with your phone, try to browse through our iPhone XR Help Guides page to see if we support your device. If your phone is in the list of our supported devices, then go to the troubleshooting page and look for similar problems. Feel free to use our solutions and workarounds.
First solution: Reboot your iPhone XR to fix App Store that is not working in iOS 13.
When your phone starts fresh, apps and features that fail to work as intended like the App Store will be restored. This is because minor software glitches affecting your phone’s functions will be eliminated once your phone has restarted. To restart (soft reset) your phone, here are the steps:
- Press and hold the Side/Power button and either Volume button simultaneously for a few seconds.
- Release both buttons once the Slide to Power Off command appears.
- Drag the power slider to the right to turn off your phone.
- After 30 seconds, turn your phone back on. To do so, press and hold the Side/Power button until the Apple logo appears.
Whenever your iPhone boots up completely, open the App Store to check if it is already working. If continues to act up, try the next solution.
Second solution: Toggle your Wi-Fi off and on again to refresh your internet connection.
App Store is among the many online services that require an excellent internet connection. When having wireless connectivity issues on your iPhone XR device, online apps and services will start to act weird. To rule this out, refresh your internet connection by switching the Wi-Fi off and then on again using the steps below:
- Go to Settings from Home.
- Select Wi-Fi.
- Toggle the switch to turn the feature off.
- Reboot (soft reset) your phone while Wi-Fi is off.
- Then head back to Settings->Wi-Fi and toggle the switch again to turn the feature back on.
Alternatively, you can also refresh your internet connection including the rest of the wireless services on your phone by turning the Airplane Mode on and off again. This can be done on the Control Center or through your phone’s settings menu. To carry out the Airplane Mode trick via settings, here are the steps:
- Head to Settings from the Home screen.
- Select Airplane Mode.
- Toggle the switch to turn it on. Doing so will disable all the wireless radios on your device
- While the Airplane Mode is on, reboot (soft reset) your iPhone XR.
- Then head back to Settings->Airplane Mode and then toggle the switch to turn the feature off to resume your phone’s wireless radios.
Wait until your phone reconnects to the network. When it does, launch the App Store. If it is still not working, troubleshoot further.
Third solution: Forget/Delete Wi-Fi network and then rejoin
If the issue is attributed to a corrupted Wi-Fi network, removing this network from your phone’s system and setting it up again can potentially fix the problem. Doing so will give your wireless network a clean start, thus eliminating random network glitches. To get this done, here’s what you need to do:
- From your Home screen, launch Settings.
- Select Wi-Fi and enable when needed.
- Find your Wi-Fi network from the list.
- Tap the information “i” icon next to the name of your wireless network.
- Tap Forget This Network option.
- Then follow the onscreen prompts to confirm the deletion of your wireless network.
We also recommend deleting the rest of the saved wireless networks to avoid conflict with the current network being used. Reboot (soft reset) your iPhone XR after deleting all saved wireless networks. Then head back to Settings->Wi-Fi to set-up your Wi-Fi network as new and then rejoin. Don’t forget to check the App Store and see if it’s back to its workable state.
Fourth solution: Disable restrictions on your iPhone XR.
In the event that the App Store is still not working even after refreshing both internet connection and wireless network, check to see if there have been restrictions set including for the App Store. If restriction has been enabled for the App Store app, no doubt it is not working. To rule this out, follow these steps to disable the restrictions:
- Tap Settings from Home.
- Select Screen Time.
- Tap Contents & Privacy Restrictions and then toggle the switch to disable the feature.
However, if you want to keep the restrictions for some of the apps, just search for the App Store and make sure that Allow option has a check mark. This means that restriction for the said app has been removed.
Fifth solution: Log out from your App Store account and then log in again.
The recent iOS changes might have logged you into a different Apple account, your logged in session as expired, or the App Store login may have expired. If the factor for App Store not to work as intended are due to account-related issues, this can be addressed by signing out and in again to your App Store account. Here is how:
- From Home, go to Settings.
- Select iTunes & App Store.
- Select your Apple ID and tap Sign Out.
Once you have logged out from your account, log in again using the valid Apple ID (email account) and password. Then check if the App Store is back to its working state.
Sixth solution: Reset all settings to fix Apple Store that is not working in iOS 13.
Your phone settings may have gone wrong after iOS 13 for a fact that major software updates can automatically override current phone settings especially if these settings had been customized. If this has been the underlying cause for the App Store to not work after iOS 13, we recommend deleting the current settings and restoring them to default. That way, any misconfigured values and options that may have caused conflict to your phone’s system functions will be eliminated. And therefore, rectifies the App Store issue. Here is what needs to be done:
- Go to Setting.
- Select General.
- Scroll to and tap Reset.
- Select Reset all settings style=”font-weight: 400;”> option.
- Enter your device passcode, if prompted to proceed.
- Then select the option to confirm all settings reset.
Wait until your phone boots up again after the reset. By then, start enabling all necessary features including Wi-Fi, to use them again.
Is the App Store still not working on your iOS 13 iPhone XR device?
Tough iOS bugs are a bit persistent. Thus, a more-advanced solution needs to be carried out if the App Store remains unusable up to this point. Resetting your phone to factory default settings, recovery mode restore in iTunes and DFU mode restore, are among the other fixes you can try to fix the problem. Hence, you need to take into consideration the downfalls any of these solutions have and think if it is worth a try. If you want, you can contact Apple Support to escalate the issue before doing any drastic moves. The App Store that is not working after iOS 13 could have been due to server outage or maintenance and therefore, there is nothing that you can do on your end but to wait until the outage is over. Otherwise, Apple Support will be more than willing to extend their help whenever needed. Make sure to provide detailed information regarding the issue that you are having on your phone and what had been done prior to contacting them.
