Gallery keeps stopping on Samsung Galaxy A10. Here’s the fix.

Troubleshooting Galaxy A10 with ‘Gallery keeps stopping’ error

In troubleshooting a smartphone with a gallery app that keeps crashing, you need to be thorough and take the problem one solution at a time. This will help you accurately diagnose the problem and eventually fix it. But don’t worry, based on experience, this problem isn’t really that hard to fix. With that being said, here’s what you need to do…

First solution: Perform the Forced restart

The very first thing that you need to do when you have the ‘Gallery keeps stopping’ error is the forced restart. It’s a simulated battery removal that will refresh your phone’s memory, as well as reload all its apps and services. If this is just a minor problem with the app or the firmware, then this procedure is enough to fix it. Here’s how you do it: 

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet. 
  2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well. 
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A10 logo shows on the screen.

Once the phone has finished rebooting, try to see if the ‘Gallery keeps stopping’ error still pops up when you open the app. If it still does, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Clear the cache and data of Gallery app

This procedure will reset the app back to its default settings and configuration, as well as replace the old cache and data files with new ones. App problems can easily be fixed with this solution so if the first one failed, this must be the next thing you have to do. Here’s how: 

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down. 
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner. 
  3. Scroll to and then tap Apps. 
  4. Find and tap Gallery. 
  5. Tap Storage. 
  6. Touch Clear cache.
  7. Touch Clear data and then tap OK to confirm. 

When the error ‘Gallery keeps stopping’ still pops up when the app is opened, then move on to the next solution.

Third solution: Reset all settings of your phone

The Gallery app is the pre-installed application, when it crashes, there’s always a possibility that it’s a firmware issue. Therefore, resetting all settings will have an effect to this problem, especially if it’s a result of a firmware issue. Here’s how you do it: 

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down. 
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner. 
  3. Scroll to and tap General management. 
  4. Touch Reset. 
  5. Tap Reset settings. 
  6. Tap the Reset settings button. 
  7. If prompted, enter your PIN, Password or Pattern. 
  8. Finally, tap Reset.

When the settings reset is done, try to see if the ‘Gallery keeps stopping’ error still shows when you open the app. If it does, then you have to move on to the next solution. 

Fourth solution: Delete the system cache

If the first three solutions failed to fix the problem, then the next thing you have to do is to delete the old system cache so that it will be replaced with a new one. You can do so by wiping the cache partition in the recovery mode. It is possible that the app crashes you’re experiencing right now is a result of a corrupt system cache, and here’s how you rule it out: 

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
  3. When the Galaxy A10 logo shows, release all three keys.
  4. Your Galaxy A10 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step. 
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  6. Press Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Once the phone has successfully booted up, try to launch the app and see if the error ‘gallery keeps stopping’ still shows. If it does, then you have to do the next solution. 

Fifth solution: Master reset your phone

A reset will be able to fix any app-related issues, including this one. However, before the reset, make sure to create a copy of your important files and data as they will all be deleted and you may not be able to retrieve them after that. Once the backup is finished, remove your Google and samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out. When everything is ready, follow these steps to reset your phone: 

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
  3. When the Galaxy A10 logo shows, release all three keys.
  4. Your Galaxy A10 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step. 
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

After the reset, set up your phone as a new device.
