Fix an iPhone 11 with touchscreen that frequently freezes after iOS 13.2

Who would have thought that after installing the latest software version on your iPhone 11 device, your phone is no longer usable as its touchscreen frequently freezes or not even responding to touches. Display issues can be very serious as it’s possible that the display itself is the problem. But it could also be just a pretty minor problem affecting only the firmware or some of the services.

In this post, I will walk you through in troubleshooting your iPhone 11 with its touchscreen that frequently freezes. We will, of course, take into consideration the fact that the problem occurred after an iOS update, that alone can be an evidence that this is just a firmware issue. If you’re an owner of this device, continue reading as this article may be able to help you one way or the other.

Troubleshooting an iPhone 11 with touchscreen that frequently freezes

In this troubleshooting guide, we will look into all possibilities and then rule them out one after another until we can determine what the problem really is all about and hopefully be able to fix it. Here’s what you need to do if your iPhone 11 touchscreen frequently freezes…

First solution: Close apps running in the background and do the forced restart

It is possible that this problem is caused by the apps that are running in the background. If the touchscreen still responds, then follow these steps to close the apps:

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and stop at the middle. This will show you the app previews.
  2. Swipe up on every preview to close apps one after another.
  3. However, if the screen isn’t responding anymore, then quickly press and release the Volume Up button, and then the Volume Down button.
  4. The moment you release the volume down button, press and hold the Side or Power key for 15 seconds or until the Apple logo shows on the screen.

Your iPhone will continue the usual boot process, and once it has successfully rebooted, try to see if the touchscreen still frequently freezes.

Second solution: Reset all the settings of your iPhone

If the first solution didn’t fix the problem, then bring your iPhone back to its factory settings or default configuration, by resetting all the settings. This is one of the most effective solutions against all kinds of software problems that occurred without apparent reason. This is how you do it:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Find and tap General.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and then touch Reset.
  4. Touch Reset All Settings.
  5. If prompted, enter your security lock.
  6. Tap Reset All Settings at the bottom of the screen, and then tap Reset All Settings again to confirm.

Your iPhone will reboot after this, once it has finished rebooting, try to see if the touchscreen is now working properly. If it still frequently freezes, then move on to the next solution.

Third solution: Factory reset your iPhone with touchscreen that frequently freezes

If the problem continues after the previous solution, then it’s time to reset your iPhone. A reset should be able to fix this problem, but before you actually do that, make sure to create a backup of your important files as they will be deleted. When ready, follow these steps to reset your iPhone:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Find and tap General.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and then touch Reset.
  4. Tap Erase All Contents and Settings.
  5. Tap Erase Now.
  6. If prompted, enter your security lock.
  7. Tap Erase iPhone at the bottom of the screen.
  8. Tap Erase iPhone again to proceed.
  9. Now enter your Apple ID password, and then tap Erase to proceed with the reset.
  10. Wait until your iPhone has finished the reset, and then set it up as a new device.

There were users who claimed that reset fixed the touchscreen issue they’ve been experiencing. However, if the problem continues and the touchscreen still frequently freezes, then you need to do the procedure that’s far more effective than the reset, even if it’s a bit complicated.

Fourth solution: DFU Restore your iPhone 11

If the touchscreen still frequently freezes even after the reset, then you need to restore your iPhone via DFU. As long as your iPhone 11 does not have any signs of physical or liquid, a DFU restore should be able to fix this problem. Here’s how it’s done on your device:

  1. Connect your iPhone to the computer then launch iTunes or Finder.
  2. While your device is connected, quickly press and release the Volume Up button.
  3. Then, quickly press and release the Volume Down button.
  4. Finally, press and hold the Side button until your iPhone screen turns black.
  5. Keep holding the Side button when the screen turns black and then press the Volume Down button.
  6. Hold both buttons for 5 seconds.
  7. After 5 seconds, release the Power button but keep holding the Volume Down button for another 10 seconds.

I hope that this troubleshooting has been able to help you. Thanks for reading.
