Galaxy S10 Facebook keeps crashing

Most of the time, this problem is characterized by the error message “Unfortunately, Facebook has stopped” which literally means the app crashed for some reason. While it could be a very annoying problem especially if you’re an avid user of the app, it’s not really a serious problem and you may be able to fix it easily. With that said, here’s what you should do to fix Facebook keeps crashing issue:

First solution: Force restart your phone first

If you’ve already experience the problem a few times, you should try doing the forced restart procedure to refresh your phone’s memory as well as reload all apps and services. More often than not, this will fix any software-related problems including app crashes and other performance issues. To do this procedure, press and hold the volume down and power keys at the same time for 10 seconds or more. Your phone will restart like it normally does but the memory will be refreshed. Once the phone becomes active, open Facebook to find out if it still crashes. If it does, then move on to the next procedure.

Second solution: Delete Facebook’s cache and data files

This will reset the application and delete its cache and data files. As I said earlier, this problem is often just an issue with the app and if that’s really the case, then this procedure is enough to make facebook run perfectly again. Here’s how you do it:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Find and tap Facebook.
  4. Tap Storage > CLEAR CACHE > CLEAR DATA > DELETE.

It’s  better to reboot the phone after doing this just to refresh its memory. After that, try to see if Facebook works fine. You will have to log into your account again and see Facebook keeps crashing even after this and if so, then move on to the next solution.

Third solution: Update Facebook app

Facebook is being updated regularly to make sure it works well with all devices it’s compatible with. It’s possible that there’s an update available for the app so follow these steps to try and update it:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Play Store > Menu > My Apps.
  3. To auto-update apps, tap Menu > Settings > Auto-update apps.
  4. Find and touch Facebook and then tap Update to update a single application.

If there’s no available update or if Facebook keeps crashing after this, then move on to the next solution.

Fourth solution: Uninstall Facebook and reinstall it

When it comes to third-party apps that keep on crashing, reinstalling them is the ultimate solution unless there’s really an issue with firmware that causes apps to crash. You should try doing this as it’s very effective. Don’t worry, none of your posts, pictures or anything in your account will be deleted.

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Find and tap Facebook.
  4. Tap UNINSTALL > OK.
  5. Now open Play Store.
  6. Search for ‘facebook.’
  7. Once Facebook is displayed on the screen, tap Install.

Once the app is already installed, try opening it and see if it still crashes and if it still does,  you have no other choice but to reset your phone if and only if you badly need to use the app. If you just want to log into your account, it’s better to use the webmail for now while the app is still not working properly. If you can, try to wait an hour or two because there are times when the problem is on the server side and if that’s the case, the problem will be resolved on its own. However, if you want to reset your phone over this, then backup your files and data and reset your phone. Here’s how you do that:

  1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Samsung account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Samsung credentials to finish the master reset.
  2. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  3. Tap Settings > Accounts and backup > Backup and restore.
  4. Tap the following sliders to desired setting:
    • Back up my data
    • Automatic restore
  5. Tap the Back key (bottom right) until you reach the main Settings menu.
  6. Tap General Management > Reset > Factory data reset.
  7. Scroll to the bottom of the screen, then tap RESET > DELETE ALL.
  8. If you have screen lock turned on, enter your credentials.
  9. If prompted to verify your Samsung account, enter the password, then tap CONFIRM.
  10. Wait for the device to reset.
