FAQs

  1. Can my picture be deleted with the album?

No. The pictures inside a certain album will still remain in your iPhone's storage even if you delete the albums that contain them. Think of the albums as “categories” or “labels” which you can assign to your pictures or videos; you can add, edit or delete them without deleting any of your pictures or videos.

  2. Why can't I delete some albums on iPhone?

There are certain albums that have been created by your iPhone. The best example of that is the Recents album. It's the first one that you can find when you open Photos and it contains all of the recent pictures or videos you took. But since it's system-generate, you can neither delete nor rename it.
Only the albums you created and those that were created by the apps that have access to your iPhone's camera and storage can be deleted. System-created albums will remain as is.

  3. Why do I need to delete albums on iPhone?

In most cases, albums created by you don't necessarily make a clutter; it's the albums created by third-party apps that often cause some annoyance, especially if there are already a lot of them in your iPhone photo album.
While unwanted albums don't necessarily take up too much of your iPhone storage space, they can cause some confusion especially if they create albums that almost have the same name as the ones created by the system.

  4. How will I know how much storage space Photos app use?

For that, you will need to get into Settings > General > iPhone Storage. The apps you see on that screen are arranged based on the size of data they take up so if Photos is in the top 5, then it's probably due to your pictures and videos. You can easily find how much data it has by looking at the right side.
Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do on that page to help free up some space. You will really have to open Photos and delete some pictures and videos you don't need anymore.
