How to Change Default System Language on Galaxy A23 5g

OneUI 4.1 Language Settings

Most Samsung devices are set with English as the default language used for system apps and services unless a different language is picked by the user during the initial setup of the device.

The selected language will also be used as the default language for keyboard and input apps except for those that are using a third-party keyboard application.

If you’re not comfortable with the selected language as you failed to change it when setting up your Samsung device, then you can change it by configuring the language and input settings.

To access and manage this information on your Samsung Galaxy device, you will need to access the General settings menu.

Steps to Change Default System Language on Galaxy A23 5g

The following steps are also applicable when configuring the language settings on other Samsung Galaxy phones running on Android 12 with One UI 4.1 OS version.

Note that the actual interface of every device may vary between models and service providers and thus, keeping the device software up to date is highly recommended so as to ensure that all key features and menu items are present.

Feel free to start when everything is set.
Step 1: First, tap Settings from the Home screen or Apps tray to launch the Settings app.

Alternatively, you can tap the Gear icon from the Notification panel of your phone. Either way will take you to the same menu afterwards.

Step 2: While in the main settings menu, locate and then tap General management. Another screen launches with a list of general system management features.
Step 3: Tap Language to continue.
Step 4:  A list of all recently added languages including the default language will show up next. To add your preferred dialect, tap +Add Language

Step 5: On the following menu, you will see a long list of all available languages. Scroll to find and select your preferred language.

Step 6: After selecting the language, you will be prompted to Keep current or Set as default. To Keep current to add the new language without replacing the default. Otherwise, tap Set as default to add your preferred language and change the default language used in the system.

When you opt to Set the recently added language as default, it will be placed on the top of the list of languages with a checkmark next to it. 

The first language that’s showing up on the language list will be used as the default language for system apps.

The installed and suggested languages are based on the country or region you are in. If your preferred dialect is not on the list, you can tap on the three dots at the top-right corner of the Add a language screen and tap All on the following screen to show all languages available.

Editing System Language

Should you wish to rearrange the current order of your languages, simply tap Edit on the Language menu.

Doing so will activate the Edit mode, making all language entries editable.

  • To change the order of the language, touch and hold the Up/Down arrow icon next to the language that you’d like to rearrange and then drop it to your preferred position.
  • To delete a language from the current list, tap to mark the radio button before the language that you’d like to delete and then tap Remove at the bottom.

Any of the listed languages will be used as alternatives in case the default language is not supported by an application. If the next (second) language to default is also not supported, the third language will be used instead.
