The following steps demonstrate the standard procedure in backing up and restoring account data from a Samsung Galaxy S20 smartphone. To make it easier for anyone to follow, I’ve also included the screenshots depicting individual steps as visual representation of the actual screens, menus, and sub-menu items.
- Swipe up from the bottom of the Home screen.
This action will launch the Apps screen where you can view several app icons.
- From the Apps screen, swipe to and tap Settings.
The Settings screen containing key menu options will appear.
- Scroll down and tap Accounts and backup.
This will open a new screen where you can find relevant options to configure including smart switch and backup and restore.
- Tap Backup and restore to continue.
On the next screen, you can view details of your account and external storage.
- Select Back up my data from the given options.
This will give you access to a back up switch to command your device to automatically back up data including Wi-Fi passwords, apps, call history, and others, remotely.
- Toggle the switch to turn the feature ON.
Automatic remote backup is now enabled.
- Tap the Back icon to save the recent changes.
This icon is located on the bottom-right corner of the display, represented by a Left Arrow. You will be routed back to the Backup and restore screen.
- Tap Backup account to continue.
This option will instigate backing up of the selected account.
- From the pop-up message, choose the backup account that you'd like to create backup of.
You can tap to select any from the given accounts or tap Add account to create a new one.
- Read and review the backup information then tap the OK button at the bottom of the screen.
This command will confirm the account backup process.

Your backup files can be restored from the specified location whenever you need to retrieve and use them again. Repeat the same steps if you want to back up data from your other accounts. Just specify the correct account that you’d like to back up then.
